the drive was pretty straight forward however the end was not! We decided to drop off our bags at the hotel first...wrong decision! The hotel had no front entrance....just a narrow lane at the back leading to a car park....well I met a bus on the lane and had to back up....right into the wall! So after driving all over the country side in windy and narrow roads I damage the car in a hotel driveway! Thank goodness for travel insurance...as it cost $1500. Off to re...

Well it is not hard to tell Fred's family come from the Lakes District....it is full,of "thwaites"....every street is a thwaites.....birththwaite, crossbirthwaite, and many many towns with thwaites in it..bleathwaite, rossthwaite......there is even the Thwaite brewery. Well today we explored the goats track...that is a 5 hour drive north and west of windemere where we discovered what narrow roads actually are....at one point we had to back up a kim to let another car through! We managed to follow the map but Lynda loves exploring back roads so we got lost in some unreal places as well...thank goodness for the tom tom! Well we got up late...had breakfast....Lynda took laundry to laundrymat... Then we walked down to Bowness and took the cruise ship on Windemere Lake to Ambleside... When we got there we walked the river walk to the town....the path initially was paved but then turned into a track across farmers fields....there were gates of all sorts along the way to keep the animals in... It is very hot and as we went thru farmers fields they did not think of putting park benche...
