Date: 24th July 2011
Place: Fraser Island!!
Weather: Sunny and slightly windy so a bit chilly
Got up early today but thankfully everyone in the room was getting up at the same time so I didn't need to sneak around. We managed to make it to the pancakes today and then were really good!! It was then all a bit rushed to get packed up, check out and get our stuff into storage all by 7.30am!
I met up with my group the A team J, made up of a couple Saoi and Phillipo (Chinese but brought up in London and Italian moved to London), Marco and Raymon (Dutch and met whilst travelling, Helen and (enter name when remembered) from Wales and then little old me. We all had to check the equipment we had been given for the next few days and check any damage already done to the vans. After a lot of messing around with signing things, collecting food and having last minute briefings about sharks, dingos and the trucks we set off for the ferry.
Marco was driving first and did pretty well getting us over the really churned up sand to the ferry. Loads of people got stuck on there way there and back. After the 15 minute ferry journey we head to a place called Lake Wabby. We got out of the cars here and had to walk for about 40 minutes which felt like such an effort. They said we were doing it today though so that nobody was doing the walk whilst being hungover.
The lake was pretty nice. It was next to more sand dunes since Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world. I feel a bit like Ive been spoilt on my trip so far though because whilst everyone was saying wow its awesome I was just thinking Ive seen a lot better. It was nice though and I braved a dip in the water which was bitterly cold. It was so bad that even after jumping around whilst in it for 5 minutes I didn't feel any warmer and had to get out.
The guys had told us we should just head back to the cars when our stomachs began to rumble. We did this but apparently we had spent too long up there and the tide was coming in so we had to hurry. Unfortunately though some people had head in the wrong direction so we had to wait for ages for the leaders to find them and by then we couldn't take the cars out because the tide was too high so we had lunch at the beach.
It was my turn to drive this time and I was so nervous. The leaders started messing with me and told me that we were going to be going through deep water but it was OK because all the cars have snorkels on them so we would be fine. Turned out they were lying but I did believe them for a little while; they were really convincing!!
The drive was awesome!!!! Because the tide was still in quite a bit we had to keep going onto the inland tracks which was really fun and bumpy. The guys in the back were attempting to drink Goon as I drove but it turned out to be way too bumpy for them!
We arrived at camp just before it got dark and started to cook our first meal. There was a choice of either steak or stir fry so we went with the steak for the first night. It was actually pretty fun cooking with the little stove we were given and sorting out all of the food, the guys turned out to be really good chefs as well and we left all the actual cooking to them.
Then the drinking began. Basically everyone there had Goon but since I hate the stuff I took my bottle of Martini with me from Malaysia and shared that with around a bit. Well it was the normal sort of drinking camp night, we played a few drinking games but it was very very cold! They turn the lights out at 10pm there so there were no lights on when I attempted to get back in the tent which didn't go very smoothly. I couldn't find the zip for the life of me and then I got in the wrong sleeping bag, but to be honest everyone was doing the same because it was just sooo cold!

Gran "Seen better"? You've become blase after all your fantastic doings and seeings! Well done on the driving... a 4WD presumably? What IS Goon?
