We left lovely San Francisco on Monday. Albeit will a lot more luggage than I arrived with - darn shops! We had a bit of a drive, but stopped off at Walmart - it gave me the last opportunity to get their deli chicken bites. So so delish!! If only Asda made them! I also managed to get a little something for Simon, Emily a little something and some M&Ms for number two.
We stopped off early evening in Santa Barbara. I had high expectations of this place but was quite disappointed. At first I ventured off alone and into the public toilets were I was accosted by a homeless lady shouting abuse at me. I get scared easily so thought I'd move and go for a walk down the beach, only to be harassed by another guy. So the pier I thought. Luckily I bumped into Meaghan then. We walked back to the promenade and stood with Ryan and some of the other guys for the sunset. It was gorgeous!! See photo. The sunset was exactly what I expected from a California town. Gorgeous!
We got back on the bus and headed to Carpinteria. This was our base for the night and was a lovely little hotel - with amazing beds! I'd somehow accumulated loads of alcohol so shared some with Kelly and tried to drink as much of it as I could before dinner. I don't like waste. We went back into Santa Barbara for dinner and to watch the Melbourne Cup. The horse I had selected was winning right up until a few seconds to go - typical! After dinner we were taken back to the hotel and chilled in the hotel bar. Some played drinking games. I like to think I chilled with the sensible ones, until they bought me a jaegerbomb, and took the mick as I couldn't skull it.
I won't tell you why on a public forum but Danii came to my room to check something with me, then I realised she was a little sizzled so may need accompanying back to her room, so I did that. And bumped into Caitlin who I then went with back to the bar - by this point it was closed. So we sat outside chatting before listening to Ryan singing and playing the guitar. Made me so sleepy.
Was a late night for me, probably the latest of the whole tour. But I was up bright and breezy again today as we set off for Santa Monica. On the way, we drove on the most beautiful stretch of road next to the Pacific Ocean. I spent the journey looking for Dolphins - there were some but I missed them. We then stopped at the beach where Baywatch was filmed. ZOE HOLT!!!! Illlllll be reaaaaadddyyyyyyyyyyyy. This was a lovely beach, but there was no Hoff.
We got to Santa Monica at lunchtime. What a lovely little place. I went for some food and then just stood looking out at the ocean. Those of you who know me won't be surprised. Beach bum! After this, we drove to Hollywood and had a quick glimpse of the sign and of Hollywood Boulevard. We walked the walk of fame but there wasn't much else there - was kinda tacky.
Then it was time for our TMZ tour. Loved the bus as it was open sides but I hadn't heard of half of the celebs mentioned. But it was nice to see the area. We got back on the bus and head back to the Miyako, the hotel were this adventure all began. I got a bit teary eyed on this journey. Because it has been an incredible journey for me. For some it's nothing but for me it's been huge, and I'm going to really miss some of the people I've met - thanks for making this trip for me guys and girls. I'm not great at goodbyes so tried to shy about quietly. But I was holding the Irish guys and girls suitcases in my room so going anywhere quietly wasn't going to happen. There were a few people I wanted to say a proper goodbye to, but never got the opportunity - which is a shame.
Once they'd dumped their bags we jumped into a cab to the Staples Centre at LA Live - home of the LA Lakers basketball team. Great game, even though we thought Danii had gone missing (she hadn't). And I put too much mustard and ketchup on my hotdog which is never good.
Now I'm back at the hotel, in the same bed I stayed in the night before the tour arrived reflecting on my trip. I won't post too much here as I'm going to reflect at the airport tomorrow as I'll have around 4 hours.
Tomorrow I'm up bright and breezy and going to Warner Brothers Studios and then I'll be off to the airport where my trip will come to an end. I won't cry I won't cry I won't cry. Story of my life.
Until tomorrow xxx

Ken Jennings (the other Lou Rodens Dad) It's been an excellent blog Lou. It's not easy to put into words travellers feelings and still give an overall view of the trip, but you have carried it of in spades. Like your dad commented, at times you bought tears to my eyes. I have always wanted to visit California's west coast mainly from reading Steinbeck's 'Cannery row' books, but that era has long gone. Thanks again for your blog, I look forward to your final summary with a box of tissues to hand.
