Louise's Travels
Coming to the end of our stay in Beijing as B is leaving tomorrow. Went on a tour yesterday to see the Temple of Heaven, Forbidden City and Summer Palace. All of which were good although all full of tour groups. The only unfortunate thing being as it is the olympics soon all the buildings are being rennovated so we weren't able to see alot of the summer palace. Did get ourselves into several more photos (think we're up to about 15 so far now) Including one man who stood behind a flower bed all the while our guide spoek to us in the hope of getting a photo?!
Did some bartering in the local market today - got a rucksack down from 120yuan to just 40. Went round one of the chinese gardens this afternoon which was very pretty especially with all the tree blossoms starting to come out. Have eaten lots of chinese food (but am taking the vegetarian route) Today's menu included pig's stomach and dog meat - hmmm!!! We've also been drinking alot of green tea and jasmine tea, the chinese seem to drink tea instead of alcohol I think.
Everyone we've met has been very friendly. Its only the chinese traders we're not so keen on. Most of the shops have about 5-7 assistants who follow you round the store from the moment you walk in. There are also lots and lots of traders on the street trying to sell fake rolex's and postcards.
