Louise's Travels
Have now left Russia and after a 6 hour boarder crossing in which all the Mongolians in our carriage were searched as they tried to smuggle western goods across the boarder am now in Mongolia. Have spent the past couple of days at a Ger camp in the middle on the mongolian mountains. Very pretty scenery especially this morning as we got up at 630 to watch the sunrise. The Ger tents were quite advanced tents with proper beds and a furnace to keep us warm (or in our case boil us) There were 10 people (all English) at the camp so we all got on really well and only made it to bed about 230am last night after lots of vodka and beer (the guys not us!) We spent yesterday horseriding in the morning through the valley and then visiting a real monglian nomadic family in the afternoon.
It was minus 13 when we first arrived in the city and while we were being shown round my hair actually froze as did the inside of my nose. It took me about half an hour to work out what was wrong with it!
Haven't seen a gate quite as pretty as the picture but there weren't any of Mongolia to choose from. We have visited a monastry in the city with a 25m high statue in on of the temples.
We leave for China tomorrow morning on a chinese train which are supposed to be the nicest of the three. I'm hoping the loos are nice having spent the past 2 days in the camp with no running water and a toilet that consisted of a whole cut into the floor of a hut. (Not as bad as it sounds)!!
