Louise's Travels
Moved on from Phnom Penh in Cambodia to Siem Rep where we spent a couple of days seeing Angkor Wat. Very impressive although we were slightly templed out by the end having seen about 27 in 2 days. Our tuk tuk driver started out being really nice and friendly, telling us about the various temples including the one he'd been working on restoring. But on our second day once he'd finished one of the tours (about midday and we wanted to see sunset) he said he'd only take us further out for more money. We were all realyl unimpressed and ended up seeing a few of the ones we'd missed the day before. We left for Thailand the next day.
The road out of Cambodia to the Thai boader has yet to be built so it was a really bumpy, dusty journey to the boader (especially when the peddle on the bus broke 'due to the bumps') The road is too bad to take big coaches on so we had a little bus.
The boader was fairly easy (between the two sides are lots of casinos as they're banned in Thailand) We arrived in Bangkok and spent a few days looking round. (trying not to buy all the pretty clothes and cheap surfer clothes in the markets on the Ko San road)
We then came up to Chiang Mai, where it has been rainy and cold for the whole time?! We did a Thai cookery course which was really good, I ate so much food in one day. Yesterday we visited an elephant conservation centre and had a ride on an elephant. Also very cool although difficult to stay in your seat as the elephant walked down really steep hills?!!
Going back to Bangkok tonight and then moving on the Malaysia, and hopefully some sun on Monday.
