Welllllll. Finally did my dive!
It was ace, once I was down there! Waiting for the days pictures - the instructor person takes some but they weren't ready today so I'll have to pick them up another day.
Saw LOADS of stuff; massive schools of fish which weren't bothered by us lot all swimming around, we were surrounded by them! Some massive cod looking things, and just some generally huge fish! Lots of pretty fish, some mackerel things, barracuda. Saw loads of sea snakes, which I was expecting to look more like eels, but they just look like normal land snakes but they swim in the sea! Saw some sting rays, and some turtles. No sharks which I was a bit disappointed about because everyone was telling me I'd see them, and that the first time you see a shark swimming along near you is the best and strangest feeling ever! Some of the other group saw a black tipped reef shark, but I didn't! The coral was pretty spectacular as well, really bright!
And, am proud of myself because I was only expecting to go to about 18metres, but.... I went to 28m! (95ft) My ears were having problems equalising at first, so I got a bit stuck at the 5m mark, haha. And I was a bit nervous after I found out I was going to 28m! So chilled out at the 5m mark for a few minutes to sort my ears out, and then I was fine after that! Apparently though one of my ears had been bleeding, and I was told to wash the mask/hood out because of my blood in it! Haha, but sometimes this happens to people when they try to equalise, sometimes the blood vessels burst, and nobody panic, its not hurting or owt!
So yeah, that was the first dive (you get two - go down for 45mins, come up for an hour for lunch, then back in. You can't stay down for too long and you have to have gaps between deep dives because the nitrogen in the air you're breathing increases which is bad if you breathe too much in. The deeper you go, the shorter you have). As soon as I got back on the boat I started being very sea sick - I felt sick before on the way out, but after we got back on the boat I couldn't stop being sick! I had to keep eating because I was sicking up nothing, which hurt! So I was scoffing pineapple which made it taste a lot nicer haha! So I didn't do my second dive :( Everyone was telling me to do it - you don't get sea sick in the water, and if you're sick under the water you can do it into your mouth piece, and as long as you make sure you blow the chunks out so you don't breathe them back in, you're fine! Apparently. No way was I doing that though! I probably would have been fine, because I felt sick before the first dive and not in the water, but I didn't want to risk puking under water. I'd rather sit on the boat from rocky, seasick hell and puke every 5 minutes than go under water and breathe in my own sick! Anyway, enough talk about sick.
Haha, apart from that it was good. I hate being sick anyway, but being sick in front of 15 strangers trapped on a boat was not fun! Now really enough sick talk.
Dive was good, enjoyed it, looking forward to the photos! Happy that I've been so deep! There was a bit of a current as well, and it was quite a hard dive - feel like I can tackle loads now!
Going to Airlie Beach on Saturday now, definitely! Exciting stuff.
