Hi all!
Just got back from the boat that took me round the Whitsunday Islands - it was grrrreat! Hehe. I still feel like I'm rocking and swaying about though which is a bit annoying!
We boarded the boat on Wednes lunch time and set sail, heading for Hayman Island, which is one of the more northern islands. Did lots of diving and snorkelling and eating! Second day did some more dives and went to Whitehaven beach - supposedly the best beach in the world! It was the second best - the best was in Mexico, but I reckon that doesn't count because apparently it was on a private resort and they had staff there to clean it every day! And its just been hit by a cyclone, so I reckon this must now be the best! It was pretty spectacular!
Bit annoyed though because we had beautiful blue skies for the first and last day, but cloudy (and lots of thuinder and lightening and a storm over night) on the day we went to this beach! Was still good though. The sand was Soooo soft. I was like walking on flour! The sea was perfectly clear and warm, we saw some stingrays smwimming around of the shore! Absolutely beautiful beach!
Then the last day we did some more diving and sailing and just got back (its about 12 now). The last day was VERY choppy and I was glad to get off the boat in the end! haha, I'd had sea sick tablets and I still felt rubbish! But some guys actually were sick so I know the tablets must have been doing something!
Did some really good diving - did 4 dives all together, which I really enjoyed! Saw loads of amazing coral, and loads of cool fish! Held a sea cucumber haha. Am proud to say that I have now dived the Great Barrier Reef! it's amazing down there! I also did a night dive! Different animals come out at night (the big hunters!) and I was terrified of sharks but we didn't see any! You're given a torch (and a glow stick to attach to your back so you can see where the group is), and all the coral looks different colours than in daylight because of the artifical light! Don't ask how!
But we saw some massive fish and crabs and little fish. And loads of shrimps! Their eyes glow red under the water which is a bit freaky cos you're just being watched by alol these red lights! We were warned that if you see two green dots, they are a sharks eyes! Haha! I wouldn't have wanted to see one in the dark, but I'm still disappointed not to have seebn one!
We saw turtles from the boat, and twice we had dolphins swim along the boat with us! Saw lots of really big fish, and on the night dive you see more! Because you have a light, you light up all the small fish for the big fish who want to eat them, so there were more big fish around cos we were helping them hunt and see the'r food!
There were some lights on the bottom of the boat too when we were stationary, and there were loads of BIIIGG fish flocking towards the lights there! Was cool!
Met some good people too. And one guy on the boat I was working with at the farm for the first couple of weeks!
The onlyannoying thing was that everyone was German pretty much. There were 24 on the boat, 4 Irish, 2 English and the rest German! They're everywhereeeeee!
Hehe. Anyway, am going back to see Bugzy tomorrow and staying until Monday. Then I'm heading sdown to Mackay. Apparently there's not a lot there, but just outside the town is a national park, famous for the duck billed platypusses there. So will spend a coupld of days there!
That's it for now! Am in the process of putting photos up - I have hundreds from just 3 days! You can tell I have a new camera! I'm constantly playing with it!x
