Getting here took all day, as we had to leave Koh Lanta on a mini bus, catch a few ferries, then get a bus to Surittani, then catch a catamaran to Koh Samui! Eventually got here and arrived at a little backpacker hostel. They only had space for one night, but that was fine. They actually had a small room with 2 double bunks so was actually quite nice! The hostel is really friendly and met loads of people on the first night, so played a few drinking games then went into the centre, which unfortunately reminded me of BCM square in Magaluf, rather than being on a Thailand island. I kept having to remind myself that I was actually in Thailand, trying to ignore all the McDonalds, Irish pubs, Starbuks and Tesco's! It was a funny night though and my first bucket of samsong. I worked out if you squeeze loads of fresh lime into it, then you hardly taste the samsong and it gets you absolutely wasted really quickly!! Happy days J
Next day we had to check out, so me and Vic found this really classy establishment called the Chav Condom hotel which charged by the hour or something like that!! Oh how I've dropped my standards since travelling! Haha It was actually a nice room to be fair, better than some that I've stayed in, and it was cheap! Spent the day walking round all the shops, offering the same old stuff, but I love shopping so I'm happy! Ended up buying the usual fake ray bans to add to my growing collection! In the afternoon a few of us rented some moto's out again and went exploring the island. I went with Curt again and he goes so fast!! Oh well, I'm still here so he can't have gone that fast! We ended up driving to a National Park and waterfalls. Our intentions were to walk to the top of the waterfall to take some pretty pictures, but we were at the foot of it, about to go up and we met this lad who was soaking wet. We got speaking to him and we told us that it wasn't water, but sweat!! We were like, no way are we walking up there if that's how we end up! So we went to see the elephants instead and there were a baby one which was really cute! Nothing like the ones I went to at Chiang Mai, as these ones were chained up and kept in pen LOn the way back to the Chav Condom Hotel we just had to stop off at Tesco's and stock up on some essentials! Ironic I know, but needs must and all that!
The next day me and Vic had had enough of BCM square so decided to move to another part of the island for one night, before going to Koh Tao. So we moved from Chewang Beach to Mae Nam Beach which couldn't have been more opposite if they tried! We had gone from complete commercialization to what felt like a bloody honeymoon retreat! The weather was a bit crap so we couldn't even sunbathe L So what else is there to do on an island except make full use off the cheap cocktails at a beach bar along the beach front! We were just happily sipping away on out daiquiris' when yet another weirdo started chatting to us! We always seem to attract the weirdo's! He was telling us that he lived on Koh Samui for 9 months of the year and doesn't work whilst he's here. So I asked the question of what job he's got back home in England and turns our he's a bloody drug dealer! Haha Why is it always us that attract these kinda people!! haha Funny though!
The highlight of our stay at the honeymoon place was making friends with a little doggy (we called her dotty). She literally followed us back along the beach to out room and actually slept outside on out veranda all night!! Bless her! Even I liked her and that's saying something!
Anyway, leaving now for Koh Tao. Hopefully this island will be what I'm looking for……
