Omg!! That was one hell of a journey from Koh Phangan to get here…30 hours later and I turn up here to the best hostel ever….silver lining n all! I literally left Koh Phangan 8pm on the 12th December and turned up at about 2am on the 14th December! I had to get a night ferry which in itself was hilarious! It was a smallish ferry, with just 2 rows of 'mattresses' on the outside of the ferry with numbers overhead. Each single 'mattress' had 2 pillows and that was where I was sleeping! I say mattress as they were just like thin blankets on the floor! So I grabbed my day pack under my arm and went sleep! Woke up about 10 hours later and I was on the other side of Thailand! The thing which is funny, is that it took like 2 hours to get to the islands from Surrattani and it took about 10 getting back!! Then there was the waiting around for next bus etc. had to change mini buses about 3 times and even took a diversion to Penang which is an island! Where's the sense in that!!
When I arrived at Reggae Mansions though the staff were so helpful and showed me to my room which was a dorm, but each bed had 3 walls and a curtain across the front! Best dorm and best hostel I've ever stayed in! It felt like a London boutique Hotel that I used to do weddings at, rather than a hostel in Malaysia. It had a courtyard which was lovely, a bar/restaurant area, gorgeous lobby, a quiet area and to top it off a roof top bar, overlooking the towers! When I arrived I met 'the boys' and we went out for drinks. They were already drunk, and I was just going to go to bed, but I thought, why not?! So we went to this bar down the road for a couple. It was a weird night, as loads of people in there kept asking for westerner's pictures with them and also their facebook name! Bizarre! The night ended with Curt being kicked on the floor by a Thai guy and Will being 'taken down' by a local! Apparently the locals thought it was funny…..hum.
I did quite a lot whilst in KL. One day I went on a tour organized by the hostel, which was more like me and 3 others people being chauffeured around KL, as it was in a mini bus and the driver would drop us somewhere then say meet me back here in half an hour etc. I saw loads this day though - including various temples, the Kings palace (And the changing of the guards), a cave, Little India, a historical war monument and the grounds and then the driver dropped us off at a ten story shopping mall! It was definitely worth the money as think it only cost about 2 or 3 pounds.
Then one night me and Dan went to the famous towers and took some brilliant pictures! They are massive and even the bank was an impressive building. KL is a nice City, but is very extreme. By day it's all high rise buildings and business people going about their work and by night there are so many homeless people sitting in doorways. It reminded me a little bit of London in that way.
I also spent a lot of time at Chinatown!! I loved all the knock off stuff so I stocked up on a few 'essentials' for Australia! This is my definition of essentials! Got a new beach bag, hat, day bag, key ring, iPod speakers, iPod tripod ray bans, to name a few!! I can't help but shop! I had to then buy a big 'genuine' Cath Kidson bag to put all my new stuff in! haha I was doing so well up until now with the shopping as well! I just can't help see a bargain and buying it! J
I've really enjoyed my time in KL. I think it's a nice City with plenty to do and plenty to buy! Ive met loads of nice people. Stayed in a lovely hostel for about 7 pounds a night and spend my evenings drinking cheap beer on the rooftop terrace bar! What more could I ask for…….
Next stop AUSTRALIA!!
