Day 119
Don't let the seperate blog fool you, we had our skydive on the afternoon of the bungy. We were absolutly buzzing from the adrenaline or maybe from the massive coffee we had from McCafe plus the other 2 we'd drunk.
We checked in and found out that we were on the last plane with an Australian guy making up our trio. Although Vincent was jumping out at 12,000ft and we were going all the way to the top 15,000ft (16,200 above sea level). Due to Al being heavier than Lorna she had to jump last again.
We were called through to get changed into our attractive jumpsuits and our briefing. We got to meet our crew; Lorna had Kras as her Tandem Master and Marius as her photographer; Al had JP as his Tandem Master and Kim as his photographer.
Before we knew it we were on the plane and rising; at about 6,000ft we were at the same height as the tallest of The Remarkables (Mountain Range) and we were surprised at how close the pilot flew to one of the peaks, but it afforded us some fantastic views. Although it was scary to think that we'd be jumping from 2 1/2 times higher than we were. This was where Lorna's nerves started to kick in, but Al was buzzing.
At 12,000ft Vincent was out and we then continued to climb. We were well above the clouds when the red light came on meaning we had 2 minutes before we jumped. Because of the altitude and Lorna's nerves Kras told her she had to have some oxygen. Then the light went green and the door slid open, which was when Lorna shouted F**K!
After a quick high five with each other Al was hanging off the edge of the plane and was laughing his head off. Al had arranged with JP to do a backflip out of the plane and they quickly disappeared.
30 seconds later Lorna was hanging out of the plane and she wished she had some Tena Lady as she was about to wet her pants...but luckily didn't.
We had a freefall of 65 seconds where we plummeted 10,000ft at 200kmph. During our freefall our photographers were taking full video plus still shots using a mouth piece. The views were out of this world and it was such a great way to experience them.
After our freefall we were both thankful and relieved that our parachutes opened. Wahoo!!!! At this time the noise from the wind disappeared and it was completely tranquil. Our Tandem Masters were able to point out the sights including Queenstown, The Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu.
On our descent we were treated to some stunt turns which spin you round at an alarming speed and send you dizzy.
Once back on the ground we had a big hug and kiss, then talked about our experience. We were excited to view our videos in the lounge area and we weren't disappointed as our photographers had done a great job of capturing us.
