We have been in the Campervan since Monday night. We were only supposed to stay in Byron Bay for one night but as usual we loved it so much we decided to stay an extra night...
Monday night we had called up the Arts Factory as they were one of the hostels in the Lonely Planet book that said they allowed Campervans. We were so excited, imaginging camp fires drinking goon with other travellers.... Of course it didn't turn out like that did it?! When we arrived at Arts Factory they basically let you have your campervan but its in the car park. It meant that you could use the hostel to 'socialise in' so it turned out ok.
Arts Factory was a hostel Ozintro recommended but i had stayed elsewhere last time because it was cheaper. It had a pool and a hippie vibe. They encouraged creative artists like musicians and professional graffiti artists and were strong eco-friendly people, with recycling points all over the hostel and signs up about saving water and our future...
Everyone was so friendly, we made a few friends sitting out in the communal benches drinking goon - a couple of boys who were also camping in a yute - you ought to have seen this, they described it as a dog kennel on the back of a car and 3 of them were sleeping in it! We had drinks back in our campervan and stayed up until 5am (getting so wild in our old age!).
The only downside to a campervan is that its bloody hot when the suns out. We checked out at 10am and hit the beach. We met Charlie in the pub where he had found a friend (no shock there, it was like flies to s***e, this boy meeting new people). We stayed for a few then Lesley and me went off to sunbathe. We later dropped Charlie in Surfers and decided to head back to Byron and catch up with our friends from the night before then hit Cheeky Monkeys. CM's wasn't the same as the last time though - not busy, you aren't allowed to take photo's, they cannot sell anything with energy drinks in them.... so crap! We left and went home with a kebab. Happy!
Today we are leaving to head North up the coast - its so tempting to stay here in Byron! WE LOVE YOU BYRON BAY x
