Its Easter weekend yay! Good Friday the Cecil is only open until 9pm so when we heard there was a Scottish Festival on Easter weekend we decided to get involved.
South of Casino there's a town called MacLean, the most Scottish town in Australia. Every year they hold the Maclean Highland Gathering weekend with pipe band parades, highland games and scottish stalls. We hired a car on the Friday and headed to Grafton to stay in a motel.
We got up early on the Saturday morning to get there and parked as the pipe band procession started at 8.30am. It was just like being at home at the gala day.
We went down to the highland games and watched the irish dancers, solo pipe bands then had lunch at The Mackay Hotel.
All the telegraph poles in Maclean have different scottish clan names and tartan on them and the shops sell different Scottish souvenirs. Its surrounded by water so it reminds Lesley of Loch Lomond - a much sunnier version.
We really wanted to stay the whole afternoon and watch the pipe bands final parade but we had to be back at work.
Macleans definitely something you have to see in Australia.
