Arrived in Sydney airport after an interesting series of flights. Shanghai airport was beyond chronic, won't fly through there again in a hurry... Walking away from everyone in Edinburgh was very hard. Almost surreal. Very upsetting. But the flight attendant on the flight to London must have felt sorry for me - he gave me several vodkas haha. Happy face!
When i arrive in Sydney airport i go straight through customs - no-one even asks to see my Visa, bloody disappointing! Considering all the fuss they make about it... Next, i collected luggage (yay it arrived safely!) and went to the Oz Intro meeting point. Met Samantha Cook who had been on the Facebook group we had all been chatting on in the run up to leaving. Her luggage was missing! The Ozintro bus driver picked us up and took us to the Hostel - Base. Right in Sydney CBD, we got checked in and went exploring, had food etc.
Nothing really prepares you for your 1st time in a hostel. I had 3 Koreans and an English girl in my room. You had drawers under your bed where you can put your stuff and there was only one plug socket for the whole room. Quite scary and unsettling at 1st but Alex the English girl turned out to be extremely funny and so nice i instantly felt better and a midnight run to McDonalds made me feel right at home!
I should also say I am back dating this blog... By 3 months. (Only just decided to do a blog) so looking back over the last 3 months and trying to put it into words is crazy. I came to Australia in a relationship. Well, if you can call it that.... I think it's safe to say everyone, including myself, knew it wouldn't last. I am glad it ended as the first few weeks were ridiculous - I spent too much time and energy worrying and being told what was acceptable behaviour and what wasn't..... But I'm glad it all happened the way it did. It's made me truly appreciate this experience and keep me grounded to the fact that not everyone is who they say they are; take people at face value and go with your gut. Everything happens for a reason and I am so much happier! Plus - I am now single.... IN AUSTRALIA!!!!!! Onwards and upwards :)
