So Wednesday had come and it was time for our day trip to the Great Barrier Reef. Matt was looking forward to it but i wasn't to be honest as i hate the salt water which makes me feel really sick. So our alarm went off around 6.30am as we had to be down the harbour for 7.30am, but we was so tired as we went out the night before and got in at about 4am so about 2 hours sleep, not a good start. Got to the Harbour and checked in to the boat we was on which looked very nice from the outside. The staff seemed friendly which is always good. So we sat down and had to fill out this form which wasn't good as the boat was leaning from side to side quite alot as the sea was rough. So many people were being sick it was unreal. Then we got told that we could take these sea sick tablets which you had to suck and it was disgusting but had to do it if you wanted to feel a little better.
We stopped at a place about an hour and half away where you collect your snorkel kit and go snorkling which Matt took advantage off, but i sat on the boat and slept as i really felt ill from the ride to get here. We then had to go upstairs for a briefing for our dive that we were going to do later on in the day, but i was in there for about 15 minutes and i really felt sick at this point so walked out to get some fresh air. We wasn't hungover as we didnt drink to much the night before, just really tired.
Got to about 11.15am and it was time for lunch so we thought if we ate something it might make us feel a little better. The lunch was really nice, it was BBQ sausages, steak, salad, potato salad so quite a good spread. But didnt really make us any better. But just before lunch i met some women and her husband which gave me some more travel pills to take that she had brought, which we took just before leaving there to go to our next place, but they seemed to do the job.
After lunch we had a 15 minute ride across to another little part of the Reef where the water was alot more Turquoise, and you could see abit more further down. Then off the back of the boat one of the instructers was throwing a little bit of food in the water and all of a sudden this big green fish would come to the surface of the water and grab the food out of the instructers hand, and the bloke would grab it a give it a stroke which was really nice to see. Another school of fish was swimming around the boat and we would throw food in and they would all race to get it, but really good to see.
It was time for our 15m dive down to the bottom of the Reef to have a look at all the species of fish. I was still feeling really ill and decided not to do the dive which i had already paid for. So Matt got he's gear on and the underwater camera that we hired and had to do a couple of precedures before going down to show to the instructer that he was capable. One of the Korean girls didn't go down as she couldn't manage to do it which was easy. But Matt found it easy and managed to get some good snaps of the Reef while he was down there for about 20 minutes. He seemed to really enjoy it and deep down i think i should of done it but it was a bit too late. After everyone was gathered together and a head count was done we headed back to the Harbour for the end of the day. We sat outside on the top deck as we didn't want to start feeling sick again as we went across. I think we started to get used to the rocky boat by now but there was another Korean girl that had been sick all day non stop, and was getting splashed by the water when it was spashing back but was really funny as she wasn't moving. We arrived back at the Harbour and thanked all the staff for a good day and had a 5 minute walk back to the Hostel. Took our camera back to the shop for them to process all the pictures and that for the next day. Went back and had our dinner, got ready and went straight back out with a few New Zealand girls we had met in our room and went for a night out. Another good day for us both...
