Day 1
On day 1 we had to get up and checked out of our rooms and out the front by the cars by about 7.30am. In our group we had 2 Irish lads called Connor and Joe, 2 Swedish girls called Marina and Milly and 2 German girls called Sandy and Stephanie. When we all together in our teams we had to have a similar briefing like the one we had the day before about what not to do over on the Island and showed us how to work the 4x4 cars etc. Then we had to put all the beer we had ordered in our ice containers to keep it chilled ready for night times. Checked our camping gear was all there and all the frying pans, plates, knives and forks etc. Then after all that was done we had to have a little check over the car to make sure we marked down all the dents and scratches so when it comes back we wont get charged for them. The bloke that was giving us a briefing was a bit of an idiot and very sarcastic. After everything was packed away, we were ready to hit the road. Joe started the driving off as he had driven 4x4's before. It was about a 20 minute drive to the Ferry, 10 minutes to get across and then about an hour drive to get to where we were camping for the next 2 nights.
When we arrived at our campsite we all decided where abouts we wanted to stay. Each tent was a 3 man tent and there were 3 tents per group, so basically 1 group would have to split and sleep in with a couple from our group. The Swedish girls were moaning for about 15 minutes about how they wanted there own tent, so I said to our group that im going to sleep in the car for the 2 nights, and Matt did the same. After everyone was set up we all had lunch which was cold meat and salad sandwiches, which i gave to Matt. After everyone done the washing up in the sea and cleared away we all went for a drive to a place called Lake McKenzie. One of the Swedish girls wanted to drive so there so we alll got in our car ready, then she stalled it, turned back on, stalled it again, turned it back on, stalled it again. Then we realised that she had her right foot on the clutch and putting no accelaration down. What an idiot and she was expecting us to fell safe when she drove. She was used to automatics back home so we gave her the benefit of the doubt and she got used to it drove us to lake McKenzie.
When we arrived it about 3pm and we had 2 hours here before heading back. The lake was huge and the good thing is that it was fresh water so straight in I went. Me and Matt went really far our until it got to about 10m deep, we started to get a bit knackered so we headed back. Got back to where we could stand up which wasn't really far out for me and decided to have a wash with the exfoliating sand, made your skin feel really smooth. 2 hours had apast and it was time to drive back to camp. It was my time to drive so in I got, the driving was quite easy, little bit like driving on ice, then we got to a really thick bit of sandy road where we had to put it in 1st gear and just drive on really hogh revs to get through it. I kept getting stuck in this vertain bit so everyone from our group and the crew would have to jump out and give me a push backwards to get a good run up at it. It got stuck again in the same place, bit annying. Then they checked the tyres because the tyres have to be quite flat to make it easy to drive on sand. The tryes were pumped up alot so they let alot of ai out of each one and after that it was fine, drive through the thick sand easy. Got back to camp and it was Steak, potatoes and salad for dinner so we all started to get it prepared. We was given 2 hobs and a gas cylinder to get the hobs going which was cool. The Swedish thought she knew what she was doing trying to boss people about a bit, but when it came to the steaks she put them in but never knew when they were ready, so i tookover the cooking (not saying i knew when it was how they wanted there steak but i knew when it was done) and told them when the spuds were done and gave each person a piece of steak which they seemed to enjoy. Me and Matt waited last to have our steaks as they were the 2 biggest bits but everyone got a similar portion. Then the Swedish girls expected us to wash up so the boys did just to keep them happy but made sure that they were doing all the wahing up tomorrow. After the washing up was done everyone (so about 60 people) we all sitting together having a drink before everyone went to there tents. Joe went a little earlier than us lot so I went round he's tent while he was asleep and started sniffing heavily around it and scratching meaning to make him think i was a Dingo. He was hitting the tent quite hard shouting, 'f*** off', so funny to be there. Then Me and Matt went to the car to catch some sleep as they were waking us up at 6.30am to have brekky and out at 8am.
Day 2
We all got up at about 7am and the weather was miserable and rainy. Stephanie was cooking scrambled egg for everyone as that was on the menu for that morning with a few slices of bread and jam/peanut butter. One of the Swedish girls had put our lunch together ready to go into our car as we were having lunch someowhere else because we was out for the whole day. They drove us to the toilets so everyone can have a poo and brush there teeth, there was a massive cue by the time I got there as I was last out of our group so I got a really nice smell when I got in there. Felt great after though, felt like I had lost a stone. Then they took us to the top of the Island where there was a little salt water pool and stayed there for a couple of hours. Then we had a little drive to we were stopping for lunch and the good thing about this place was that there was a shop there that sold hot food. Our lunch was cold meat raps with salad, bit of fuit cake and some fuit, but the raps were tiny so me Matt, Connor and Joe went over and got a sausage roll which went down a treat. Got a few snacky bits incase we got hungry in camp. Then we headed off to another place where we had like a 2 hour walk to these sand dunes which were very nice and gave you a great view of the ocean. There were these really steep hills that you could run down which were really fun as we done it as a whole group which made it alot better, a few people went back up and done it again. By this time it was time to head to our next place. We drove for about an hour towards camp and stopped just before at this little stream and the bloke who we was leading said that everyone has to swim in this stream even though it was raining or otherwise he wouldn't stop at the toilets on the way back. So literally everyone got into this stream and ran to the end as it was freezing. Connor and Joe tried getting me in which they succeeded in the end. It was freezing, so we all got straight into our towels. By this time it was about 5.30pm so we headed back to camp ready for dinner which was chicken stir fry. It was a miserable night as it didnt stop raining but the crew had put a big cover up which kept us in the dry but it was still quite chilly. The girls and connor chopped up all the vegetables and I was frying them in the frying pan and putting them in this tin until we mixed it all together at the end. Then they chucked in carrots and I was like you cant fry carrots with just oil in the pan but they seem to think you can until they started going black so I said add some boiling water. Then we chucked the chicken in and there werent to much oil left so I said put some boiling water in again then we can put all the spices in so they can absorb into the chicken, they didnt want to but me and Connor did it anyway as he knew what i wa talking about. At the end the chicken was really nice but me and Matt didn't eat to much of it as it was full of vegetable and wuite spicy so we went to the car and had some of our sweets that we got from the shop earlier. Then got the beers out and had a few more beers before heading to bed as everyone was trying to get into the cars as it was raining and everyones tents was soaking which we found quite funny.
Day 3
They woke us up again at about 6.30am and had brekky which was bread with jam/peanut butter and cornflakes. After doing the washing up we packed up all the tents and cooking gear and chucked it all on the leading vehicles as the had roof racks and trailers. Then they took us to the toilets again but i made sure i was up the front this time as i didn't want another wift of poo hit me in the face again, brushed our pegs and had a 40 minute walk to Lake Wobby which was quite nice but by this time i think everyone wanted to head back and it was the same thing again. After a few hours there we all went to these shops where there was a bakery and stuff like that so no one got there lunch out and decided to buy it. Me and Matt got a sausage roll each and a bit of cake, then went down to the shop and got a Magnum each so quite a nice lunch. Then after lunch we all headed back to Ferry to get back to mainland and back to the office where the crew had to take us to clean out all the cars and clean the tents and plates, saucepan etc. Then they took us back to our Hostel for a much deserved shower and a few free beers. That night the crew members Danny and Micky came to our Hostel and had a few beers with everyone. Then me Connor, Matt, Joe, Stephanie and Sandy all went and got some dinner from just up the road from our Hostel. Soon after dinner we came back and we were knackered so we straight to bed and it felt like luxery compared to the car. We had the best sleep and got up early the next morning for our bus trip down to Noosa...
