Wednesday was spent in Innisfail - the ABS componant has failed in the car. This is a b***** however the car can still be driven - thankfully!
Innisfail has provided such highlights as: not meeting Peppi the crocodile (who is now our trip mascot), the backpackers at the caravan park including the spanish couple who yelled for a couple of hours and the japanese cartoon watching man who would remove the tissue covering his mouth to laugh and the final highlight is that innisfail has a suburb call coconuts (this amuses me).
Today (thursday) we left Innisfail and headed to the Lions Den Hotel which is an iconic stop when in this area. Its a pub just south of Cooktown which allows camping.
The landscape changes considerably here even if you dont travel far - rainforest, bush, open scrub land etc..
We got to pass through Atherton, Mareeba (stopped at the Mango Winery - some nice wines).. Also stopped at the Palmer River Roadhouse - very australian up this way.
We are staying at Lions Den for two nights and I believe this begins our time of limited phone reception..
Tomorrow we are heading into Cooktown for a look around and then back to Lions Den for some R&R...
