What a journey, after a 22 hour traveling season from Heathrow to Perth via Dubai we arrive at 12:01 east backpackers hostel at 1.45am. The taxi driver made me feel welcome, he had been here for the last 30 years originally from the war torn country of Afghanistan, now a passport holding citizen. We paid him and we went our separate ways. Standing in front of the hostel trying to alert staff of our presence by knocking at the front door and shouting up to the open window, came to no avail we decided to contact STA travel to see what our options were.. When the operator answered and the situation was explained, it was clear he was about to leave for the night so the answer was simple, clear and concise. Find another room for the night.. Not sure if you know but the queen was in Perth this week and as a result anyone and everyone interested in this had booked a room in Perth. The first hotel we went to was fully booked after being directed to the adjacent building where the going price for a double suite was $450.. It was becoming clear this would be a long night... walking the streets of eastern Perth for 2 long hours speaking to any receptionist he could find, things were becoming frantic and I could smell the whiskey he had drunk the evening before, clearly the leather jacket was a bad choice. Contemplating a night on a park bench, in fact a popular decision for around 4000 people living rough on the streets of Perth, he decided to try one more and if no luck, secure a spot to view the sunrise from with my fellow travellers.. We stumbled across Miss Maud's, a Swedish hotel, close to the crime centre of Perth North-bridge. Yes by this time I had walked a good kilometre away from my original dwellings and no this hotel was not a massage parlour. Settling for a nights kip was the main target and by 4.30am He was chilling with an ice cold beer chating to the parents over face time, time to relax... For 5 hours, before check out, quickest $170 anyone had ever made I'm sure.. Breakfast was included in the price and when he awoke he ate like a pig, eggs, bacon, sausage, muffins, fresh juice, coffee, cereal all the usual suspects needed to kickstart a day of new experience and excitement.
