The road trip is complete, Broome had to be the highlight of the trip, with crystal blue water and white sand beaches, most probably one of the best parts in western Australia. The town was pretty sweet, lots of backpackers walking around barefoot, hair in dredlocks visiting the surrounding area. According to activists, an oil an gas company is planning to turn one of the last remaining untouched beauty spots into a gas station which would disrupt different species all around St James point and most importantly change the calving patterns of some 3000 whales. Lots of people were voicing their opinion at one of the local refineries and the protest turned ugly, happy to say we were not a part of it and continued on the sales and marketing campaign. We all did a lot better in Broome and by the end of the week we were ready to relax playing a couple games of pool with a few jugs of beer, prices in WA are incredibly expensive costing around $20 a jug, Titties, one of the leaders, described going out to get drunk as something you would need a loan application for, I'm pleased to be back to in an area where you can buy a jug for less than $11.. The high cost of everything in WA is mainly due to the area being a logistic headache. The wages are comparable to the cost of living so all good if you live there but on a shoestring budget the technical term is b*****ed.
So on the last day we went to watch the stairway to the moon, which is an event on a full moon where as it rises it reflects on the water and simulates stairs, to be fair it was alright.
On our way home we stopped off at the Ivanhoe campsite in Kununurra where I slept the back of the car, just as I started dosing off I heard are leader shout "what the hell you think ya doing" turns out a few aboriginal kids were attempting to break into the car we were sleeping in, I would have loved to see their faces if they managed to get in, to find a couple lads looking at them, like.. Need a lift somewhere mate?
So I got dropped off in Katherine, where I'm staying at cocos hostel, nice feeling to be back in the backpacker environment, time to get my clothes washed, beard trimmed and back on the farm where I'll try to get my remaining regional days completed.
