The morning run around Russell wasn't too strenuous, we avoided the hills and saved those for the morning walk. The walk was to the viewpoint over the lovely bay with some lovely old schooners setting sail with day trippers. A very colourful parrot appeared walking up the road, there has been a great variety of birds to see but like Australia other other wildlife has been missing, apart from rabbits. We failed to find a geocache on the nearby beach because the tide was in, who puts these caches in such ridiculous places?
We took the car ferry across to Paihia which is the main tourist town for the Bay of Islands. It is quite a large town, not as pretty as Russell and very busy. The town was preparing for the annual Paihia to Russell swim which is on tomorrow. Of course Graham wished he had entered but he hasn't got his wetsuit, but it will be interesting to watch. Apparently two cruise ships arrive in the bay tomorrow as well, so the town becomes even busier. We had lunch at Haruru Falls, I know we have seen a lot of waterfalls in NZ but with all the rain of the last couple of days they are spectacular. Apart from that we have had a pretty quiet day. We found a pleasant campsite on the coast within walking distance of the town so we can go on a sailing trip tomorrow and leave the campervan here. We are in the Bay of Islands one of the top sailing locations in the World so it just had to be done and on an 80ft maxi yacht that has raced around the world.
