We awoke to a beautiful sunny morning, so Lake Tekapo looked stunning. We decided to walk up the nearby Mount John where the observatory is situated . The views from the top were pretty spectacular. A runner had passed on the way up but walking was enough for me. We departed for Mount Cook passing some pretty amazing viewpoints on the way, the long drive was well worth it, being so close to the snow capped mountains. The largest glacier in NZ the Tasman Glacier was nearby so we drove down a bumpy track and walked to a viewpoint which overlooks the glacier. Of course the scenic locations always involve a bit of geocaching so extra stops, however coach loads of tourists with cameras seem to appear at the same time. They seem to photograph everything from every possible angle, must be very boring to their friends and relatives back in the Far East.
We decided to stop at a campsite near Twizel . It was a bit odd as we seem to be the only ones here and as previous campsites had all been quite busy,we are wondering what's wrong with it. We have used the laundry, kitchen and bathrooms and so far nothing seems to be wrong. Perhaps some monster will creep out of the woods in the night!
