We woke to see that overnight there had been a dusting of snow on the mountain tops!
An early start today as we are travelling 250km down the iconic Icefields Parkway. This is the most scenic drive in Canada and there are several must see sights on the way so it is a day's trip. Unfortunately the weather seems to have taken a turn for the worse it's very cold and lots of low cloud and rain. We stop at at a couple of scenic waterfalls and the rain dries up. By the time we get to the Icefields centre the sun begins to break through . We used our " free" tickets for a trip out on to the Athabasca Glacier and then went on to the Skywalk which is a glass floored walkway over the valley. I think they are trying to copy the Grand Canyon walkway but I don't think it quite had the same wow factor.
A couple of more stops on the way and we reach our hotel at Lake Louise. The iconic Fairmont Chateau hotel on the lake was a bit out of budget so we opted for a quaint hotel quite close by. We took a short walk to the lake before dinner and could see the famous lake is absolutely stunning even as it started to rain. I hope the sun comes out tomorrow it would be a shame not to see it at its best. The forecast however is not good, better on Thursday I hope.. At least there is a lounge with a roaring log fire, it's a bit wintry here. We had dinner and then found the hot tub which was on the roof, a lady arrived with a bucket of ice to do the ice bucket challenge, we decided not to join her in that challenge.
