We started the morning with a swim in the pool, and considering that the hotel is fully booked with a large number of triathletes the pool is surprisingly quiet. The lifts in the hotel are being rather overused especially when everyone is trying to get their bikes in the lift for the 9am bike ride. Being squashed in a lift with a load of bikes is not much fun for the non athlete guests.
We thought we would take some lunch with us to the triathlon park today but there is a severe lack of food shops in the centre. It's a common find of all the athletes and there are complaints that you can't even find a shop selling fruit and veg!
We used the train today which was much more efficient than the buses , however there does not seem to be a system to check whether you have a ticket or not so they must be very honest people here. A free shuttle bus transports everyone from the station to the triathlon park very efficiently.
Today was the aquathon events ( swim and run). Jeanette Cardy a lady from Witney was competing and won silver in her age group. The GB ladies got 7 medals but the men only got 1,
Graham now realises he could compete in aquathons a as well as triathlons as many of the athletes do both and you don't need any extra gear, so watch this space!
The day was very sunny and hot, the competitors wearing wetsuits for the swim were roasting as they waited for their starts. However the weather is not set to last and rain is forecast, so I think it is going to be much cooler for Graham's event on Friday. We didn't do much else today we did find a proper supermarket near the train station before we came back to the city centre. No celebrity spotting today.
