Tuesday, We met for breakfast and we're introduced to our guide Sangam. We put stuff in storage then took our kit bags off to the airport with us, our terminal was full of people heading off to the mountains and hiking kit. We flew at 7:45 am, our plane was tiny, only 12 seats and the flight time was only 20 minutes, there were 3 really friendly Australians on our plane who were laughing at the boys wearing their shorts while everyone else who were landing back from Lukla were wrapped up, however it was really sunny. We read about sitting on the left side of the plane for the best views so that's what we did, the landing in Lukla is incredible, a run way on the mountain at 2886 metres, such a novelty! Our Sherpas where there waiting for us, Gumandog who is 25, Vim who is 23 and Dawa who is 18 but looks about 16, we laughed at first as they are all so small next to Ben, Liam, Chris and Sam.... Even next to Laura! They took us to a local teahouse, for some tea, then we started trekking at 9:30, there is lots of people in Lukla Village, lots of kids to say hello to and there were monuments in memory for the first women to reach the summit of Everest and for the plane crash that happened not too long ago. The path was very easy going and had lots of prayer wheels along it which Sangam said to spin for good luck, there were lots of donkeys and horses going past carrying supplies up into the mountains and we crossed one very long scary bridge which obviously the boys thought was great fun jumping and swinging it whilst Laura held on for dear life, Sangam found this all very entertaining! We talked to Sangam and learnt that he's 29, is married with a 2 year old son who he proudly showed us photos of, he was a porter from the age of 15 and has been a guide for nearly 10 years now. We made it to Phakding (2640m) in about 2 hours, easy peasy, we put our bags in our rooms, ate some lunch, then chilled in the restaurant for the afternoon playing cards, after tea we went to a bar in the village where they had shisha and we could play pool.
