Sunday we set off from Singapore at 10:00 for our 5 hour coach journey to Kuala Lumpur. Our coach definitely exceeded our expectations, the seats were really big and reclined fully and they even massaged your back! We got to KL at 15:00 and Kelly picked us up. We had a nice relaxed day just chilling at Kelly and Johns home, it's so nice to sit on a sofa and watch TV! Kelly cooked us a really lovely diner and we spent the evening chatting and watching movies...just what we needed!
Monday we had a lovely lie in! We were up at 9:30 however Ben would have preferred later! We had some breakfast then Kelly took us into town at 10:30. On the way we stopped at the Kings palace, it was huge and had beautiful gold domes on the roof, we had a photo with the guard who seemed to love being photographed as he smiled-not like the guards at Buckingham Palace. We walked to Medeka square where Malaysia signed for independace in 1957 then visited the KL City gallery where there was a model of the city. After, we walked to Central Market which would have been the main market years ago know as a 'wet market' where all traders would have come to sell their meat, fish, fruit and veg etc. now it is full of little shops selling souvenirs and crafts, we brought a lovely crafted pillow case. Then we visited 2 temples, first we went to a Chinese temple called Guan Di, then we went to an Indian Hindu temple called Sri Mahamariamman which was huge and beautiful! There was a small gathering of prayer around a particular God which we realised was for a type of christening as there was a tiny baby placed at the front, because we were watching and paying interest the family offered us food which had been blessed so we tried some, sort of savoury donuts with onions in - really tasty! We went to China Town and had a great time shopping, Ben got some Oakley sunglasses, Laura got a Mulberry handbag and 2 floaty skirts. After, we went for lunch at an Indian Kelly and her family use-it was so delicious, we ordered way too much food and we were stuffed! We headed back to Kelly's and chilled out for the afternoon, when Jake came home from school Ben got to play on the playstation and with nerf!
Tuesday we set off at 11:00 and headed to KLCC, we saw the Patronis Towers which are the words tallest twin towers, we walked through the park below and went to the Traders hotel and had a drink at the long bar which overlooked the city and had a great view of the towers. After, we explored the numerous shopping malls, Ben managed to find a GoPro stall, then headed to Hard Rock Cafe for yet another glass! We headed back to Kelly's and chilled out for the rest of the day, we watched Chicken Run and ate Fijitas.
Wednesday we popped across the road for breakfast, Roti - A indian-malay type of pancake dipped in dill and curry sauce, it was very tasty! After, Kelly took us to the Batu caves, a series of Hindu cave temples. The caves are said to be 400 million years old and nowadays you can climb the 272 steps to enter them. At the base of the steps stands a golden statue of one of the Hindu God's, standing at 42.7 m high, this is the world's tallest statue of Murugan. At the top of the steps are the caves which contain numerous mini temples and shrines. When we were at the top we saw a monkey steal a plastic bag of food from a man, we believe the man had brought the food as an offering for when he prays and that the monkeys know this so target them! Kelly said there are usually loads of monkeys there however we only saw a few. When we got back to the bottom of the steps we went into one of the temples and we were very welcomed, 2 men who I guess would be like priests called us over to their separate statues and blessed us by putting the dots on our heads, we were told that one God was for education and the other was the mighty God that protects you over anything, this was exciting for us! As it started to rain we left and headed to China Town for round 2 of shopping extravaganza with our cheif haggler kelly! Ben bought a vans vest and a tiger beer vest, a pair of billabong boardshorts and a pair of quicksilver boardshorts and a diesel duffle bag for the grand total of £32!
Thursday we went across the road for Roti again as we liked it so much. After, Kelly dropped us to the Thai embassy so we could discuss with them whether we need a visa or not - UK passport get 30 days free entry however we are there 16th Nov to 16th Jan, we have decided to go to Burma around 15th December for a couple of days and if we fly back into Thailand we get another 30 days. We caught a cab back to kellys, the equivalent journey of Downend to Bristol centre cost us £2 when it would cost £20 at home! When we got back we decided to take a stroll to the mall across the road and look around the shops and had a subway! We chilled out for the afternoon and managed to pop out sneakily when Kelly went to get Jake from basketball so we could buy some gifts, we bought some flowers, wine, biscuits and sweets to say thankyou to all the Chivers for letting us stay in their home, eat their food and kelly for being a fantastic tour guide! After dinner we went out with Kelly and her friends to a bar called 'the balcony' well known for its balcony where you get a great view of the mosque and twin towers, especially at night when they are lit up, we had a great time talking to her friends as lots of them have travelled parts of Asia we are going to.
Friday we were up earlier to get our stuff ready as today we leave for Penang, we have had a great time in KL and couldn't thank Kelly, John and Jake enough!
