After a very long travel we finally arrived in Singapore! We caught a cab to our hostel and had a really friendly driver, he started pointing out all the 24hr food markets and naming food we should eat...we realised quickly that its not just Ling that is obsessed with food-its all Singaporeans! We were relieved to get to our hostel as we were sooo tired so it was straight to bed!
Thursday we slept in until 11:00 then headed out for food, first experience of real Asian food was good! After we decided to walk around and try to find a tourist information shop. We walked to the Plaza and Orchard street...lots of shops! We headed back to the hostel so we could make a plan on what we were going to do for the next couple of days then at 18:00 we headed out again. We caught the MRT to Marina Bay Sands to watch the light show which consisted of lazers flashing through sprays of water over the Marina Reservior, then walked across to the Gardens by the bay to watch the light show there which consisted of large man made trees called supertrees all lighting up and flashing different colours...both shows very pretty and free! We ate more Asian food then caught the MRT back to the hostel. First impressions of Singapore are amazing! This city is very cosmopolitan, lots of places to eat and shop, lots of art, its very clean and feels extremely safe! Safer than a night out in Bristol! We are very happy here.
Friday we decided to do the hop on hop off bus. We had breakfast at the hostel then headed to Golden Mile shopping mall to purchase our tickets to Kuala Lumpur for Sunday. After, we caught our bus and toured the city stopping at all areas Ling and Kelly had advised! We saw Little India, Raffles Hotel, Singapore Flyer, China Town and finished at Hard Rock Cafe so Laura could get another glass! We wanted to do Bugis street too but our driver didn't stop at the bus stop which was annoying. At Raffles Hotel we just walked around as it is very pricey but it was funny seeing all the Monkey Nut shells on the floor! We did not go on the Singapore Flyer as it is very similar to the London Eye so again we just walked around, right at the base is where the pit stops are placed during the grand prix and all the road markings are there which Ben enjoyed looking atstanding on! It was a long day come the end and we were glad to get back as a thunder storm was starting! After the storm we snuck out to the 24hr food market for more Asian food!!
Saturday we went to Sentosa Island to do Universal Studios!! We had a really fun day on all the rides, there were 2 rides we really loved, the transformers ride and a steven spielberge ride where it was demonstrated a movie set being turnt into a category 5 hurricane! We stayed until 20:00 to watch the fireworks. Unfortunately we weren't so lucky heading back to the hostel and got caught in a huge thunder storm! We were soaked!! We got to the hostel and sorted our stuff out as tomorrow it was time to say goodbye Singapore and hello Kuala Lumpur!
