Out of nowhere Spring has sprung! Since Saturday the weather has been glorious; hello warm beautiful sunshine! So being British we peel off the layers and head out in shorts, t-shirts and flip flops only to discover that the Aussie still regard this as jeans and jumper weather - it's 25 degrees are they mad?!
So Saturday we were taken on a tour of South Melbourne courtesy of our landlord, Pat. Our destination was the South Melbourne market but on the way Pat drove us past the Royal Botanic Gardens followed by a lap around Albert Park where they hold the Australian Grand Prix. It was awesome! The pair of us were grinning from ear to ear and I was even making racing car noises. We drove down the start/finish straight and pulled in so that we could have a nosey around and take some pictures.
Once at the market we bought some great fresh produce - fruit, veg and the biggest beef steaks I have ever seen - they were humongous!! We also tried some of the markets 'famous' Dim Sims, one fried and one steamed and they were yummy! We are definitely going back for more.
After the market Pat continued our tour and drove back the scenic way via Port Melbourne and St Kilda beach. We seen a few fancy houses and some even fancier cars along the beach front so it must be where some of the rich kids live.
After our little tour Davie and I headed over to Victoria Park, mostly to catch some rays but also to watch a VFL game between Fitzroy and Weeribee. Fitzroy won by miles.
That evening we ate our massive steaks and headed out to a bar called Naked Satan for a couple of drinks, nothing wild just a beer and cocktail. We were lucky enough to bag a table on the rooftop deck which provided us with great views of the city skyline so we were happy to sit there nursing our drinks until the people around us became drunk and noisey.
On Sunday we packed up my bike basket with a picnic and headed out for a cycle. The aim was to do a dummy run of the route that Davie has to take to get to work, firstly so that he knows where to go and secondly so he has a rough estimation of how long it'd take. We took a few wrong turns but eventually found the way. The bicycle track is a shared path with pedestrians that is away from the road so it's very scenic but very popular at the weekends, we were constantly pinging the bells to warn people we were approaching.
On the ride home we stopped off at a little farm cafe for a nice refreshing beverage and a cream tea to refuel as we were hot and hungry! Another customer ordered a bacon sandwich and it looked soooooooooo nice so we are going to head back there for breakfast on weekend.
Yesterday I spent most of my day traipsing around charity shops to try and find some ski masks and gloves. I was successful with the masks (yay!) but not with the gloves. Today I've been out on my bike again (I love it!!) and I've started to get more confident on it, I'm still not ready for the main roads yet mind you! The hills are getting easier but they are still hard bloody work, especially with a basket full of shopping. My thighs are going to be very toned if I keep it up.
Tomorrow I'm getting my 'bake on' and I'm going to bake some cakes for Davie to take into work on Thursday for his birthday, this has always puzzled me - why do you have to take cake in for everyone on your birthday?! Surely everyone should bring you cake in, it's your birthday afterall! Nonetheless I love baking so I'm not going to complain, I'm going to bake some lemon cupcakes, banana and white choc chip muffins and an orea brownie. Hopefully they'll be some left for Davie to take to work haha!!
Three more sleeps until we go skiing - I cant wait!!! I just hope the sun hasn't melted all the snow by the time we get there!xx
