Well it's been a quiet couple of weeks, especially now that Davie has started to work but we've still been up to a few things, we can't live in one of Australia's greatest cities and not sample it's delights afterall!
Last weekend we went to our first Aussie rules game, it was played at Victoria Park which is just over the road from us. It was a VFL (Victoria Footy League) game as opposed to a AFL (Aussie Footy League) game so basically it was the reserve teams playing in a local league rather than the 'premiership', the thought being that it might be a bit slower and easier to take in the rules. This wasn't the case. I still have no clue, I just cheer / boo when the rest of the crowd do. Davie has grasped it though so maybe we'll go and see his team, Collingwood (Magpies) play at the MCG sometime soon, he can just nudge me when I need to cheer!
Food wise we have been to some wonderful places. Last Wednesday we went for a Greek meal which was absolutely scrumptious, Davie had a massive plate of lamb which had been roasted on a spit and I had lamb skewers, both of which were cooked to perfection. We've also had some amazing brunches; a very much needed greasy spoon, all-day brekkie was devoured last weekend. Finding a greasy spoon cafe was very difficult though; Melbourne is a trendy city so the majority of the cafes are a bit posh, but we stumbled across one, much to our joy! We have also enjoyed the posh cafe brunches, the highlight for me being an eggs benedict enjoyed at an Italian cafe with a flat white. They pride themselves on their coffee in Melbourne so we are yet to be served with a crappy cuppa, even the greasy spoon served proper coffee, in fact the coffee took longer to make than the breakfast!
Tomorrow we are heading out for a Japanese four course meal (thank you Groupon!), the restaurant is beside the Yarra river so hopefully we'll get some stunning views to accompany our food. We've said we'd like to dine out at least once a week and that we'd like to try somewhere different each time. Maybe we should add a 'foodie' section to the blog haha!
With regards to drinking we have sampled some delightful establishments, there are loads of pubs and bars to choose from so we are steadily working our way through them. As I mentioned previously they love their coffee here so we have sampled an abundance of coffees in a variety of styles; latte, cappuccino, flat white, espresso and macchiatos, all of which have been superb. We are off to a cafe called Market Place Coffee at Prahran Market tomorrow because we've heard they serve a pretty damn good cuppa.
As well as eating and drinking our way through Melbourne we have also done some more sightseeing. We had a walk around the Docklands, which is undergoing some development work at the moment, and we were admiring the yachts and doing some jellyfish spotting. We also went for a walk along Southbank which lead us to a walk along the Yarra River which eventually lead us to the sporty part of town, so we had seen the MCG, Rod Laver Arena, Hisense Arena and AAMI Park up close now. We have also explored a bit more of our local areas; Fitzroy and Richmond. We have found that when we just amble along with no definite plan of where we want to go, we tend to stumble upon some great places.
So other than that we have just been plodding along really; Davie at work and me looking for work. I'm cooking up an absolute storm in the kitchen in the meantime, I must take after my Nanna more than I thought because I have been surprising myself and Davie with some yummy baked goods; cakes, cookies, scones, puddings, I've had to curb my enthusiam a little because our waistlines were starting to suffer!
All in all we are still having a great time and we can't wait for Spring to arrive so that we can start exploring the beaches, gardens and parks without freezing our butts off!!!

Lauren Haha funny you should say that...I was saying to Davie that they need a good old English tearoom here. Can you remember that one we went to in Leamington Spa? That's what I'd like :-) xx
