Yesterday I got on the train and had a little outing to Brighton, a Melbourne suburb about 20 minutes from the CBD. Brighton is along the Bayside so it has a lovely sandy beach that stretches for miles and it's famed for its Victorian Bathing Boxes which are the main reason why I choose to pay Brighton a visit.
The beach itself was lovely and clean and because of the weather (rain was forecast) I pretty much had it all to myself with the exception of a few dog walkers and runners. So I started off by walking along the esplanade singing "ooo I do like to be beside the seaside, ooo I do like to be beside the sea, ooo I do like to walk along the prom prom prom where the brass band plays tiddly om pom pom" unfortunately there wasn't a brass band but that didn't deter me and because of the gloomy weather it did almost feel like I was back at the English seaside, almost!!
After a walk along the esplanade I took a path that led me onto the beach and boy am I glad that I chose that path because the view was spectacular. As I stood there I could see a stretch of sand that curved along the bay and along it were the colourful bathing boxes but in the distance you could also see the Melbourne skyline, it was pretty cool.
By the time I reached the bathing boxes I was in full tourist mode - snap snap snap I went with the camera! They were sooooo cool and vibrant and I loved how different they all were. I had a few favourites, my first favourite was number 21 which was painted in pastel colours and I also really liked the rainbow box. I'd love to own one, I'd just live in it, all I'd need is a BBQ, sun lounger and a library of books...ahhh bliss!
After the bathing boxes I carried on down the beach where I came across Brighton baths which is walled off area of sea where you can go swimming. At the time there were people swimming in it - they must have been mad or had very thick skin because I imagine the water would have been freezing!!!
Next to the baths there was a pier with a marine area at the end where all the yachts were parked. I started to walk along the pier but it was at that moment that the heavens opens and thunder growled in the distance so I hastily pulled my waterproof coat out my bag and made my way back to the train station.
I think when I return with Davie we'll save it for a sunnier day and then we can get an ice cream, some fish n chips and then I can sing "ooo I do like to be beside the seaside" to him which I know he'll enjoy because I have the voice of an angel
