Last week was action packed to say the least. We made a few spontaneous ticket purchases to prolong Davie's birthday celebrations. The first ticket purchase was to see King Kong at the Regent Theatre on the Wednesday evening. The show was excellent, however, there were a few bits that went on for a bit long and my biggest criticism was that you could see the wires and the puppeteers controlling the King Kong puppet. During all the advertising for the show they were constantly saying "Prepare to be amazed!" so I was expecting to be amazed and even though I know that King Kong isn't real I wanted to be tricked into thinking he was real and when you can see the wires and puppeteers it takes that magic and amazement away from it a little bit. Other than that though the show was really good.
On Thursday evening we went to Chapel Street in South Yarra to a Japanese restaurant called Tokyo Teppanyaki and we ate like kings. We were given a few starters including spring rolls and sushi rolls. Then the Teppanyaki element of the meal started and because it was a Thursday evening the place was fairly quiet so we got the chef all to ourselves. He cooked us up: prawns, squid, chicken and beef with egg fried rice and beansprouts. Of course a Teppanyaki meal wouldn't be complete without something being thrown at you and we did the catch a piece of fried egg in our mouths, well I tried anyway...either the chefs aim was rubbish or I just couldn't catch! We also had small bowls thrown at us which we had to catch with the previous bowl so by the end we had a tower of bowls in our hands and the last bowl contained rice so there was added pressure to catch that one....thank goodness we did otherwise there would have been rice everywhere! It was all jolly good fun though and the food was superb!
Friday evening we made another spontaneous ticket purchase in the shape of an AFL quarter final ticket - Geelong "Cats" versus "Power" Port Adelaide at the MCG. This was both our first visit to the MCG and our first AFL game. We got some great seats - 6 rows from the front behind the posts and next to the Geelong Cheer Team. The cheer team are the hardcore fans who wave all the flags, banners, pom poms and lead all the songs so it was great fun sitting next to them and we really got into it. We seen loads of action and had the obligatory pie and red sauce at half time, and to top it off Geelong won so we left feeling very happy!
Saturday we had a bit of a lazy day, went out for a walk, did some food shopping and went to Ikea for some Swedish meatballs - yummy!
Sunday we met up with Steve and Maria for an afternoon of Lawn Bowls! Don't laugh! I know back home you have to have a blue rinse to take up lawn bowls but over here it's played by young and old - it's basically another excuse to have fun in the sun and the beer is discounted, bonus! None of us had ever played before so when Davie and I arrived early and got some practice in we were a bit miffed when our balls kept flying off to the right or to the left or whichever direction we didn't want them to go in. As Steve and Maria arrived a nice gentleman came over to us and advised us to bowl the balls with the small circle on the inside of where we wanted them to curve. Well after that we were away! It appears I have a talent for the game and quite often my ball would end up either touching the jack or sitting just next to it, Davie was well chuffed to have me on his team (for once haha!) and we won both sets yipeee! We all had such a good laugh and we are definately going to do it again.
Until next time xx
