Today we woke up early to head to the Australia Zoo which I was quite excited to visit. Run by the Irwin family and home of the crocodile hunter I had seen it on tv an heard good things about it.
We hopped on the greyhound bus at 8.10am and made it to the zoo around 10am.
From here we simply wondered around the zoo taking pictures and playing spot the animal in enclosures which otherwise looked empty!
We then headed to Roo Heaven and this it was. For $2 you could buy a bag of food and walk through an enclosure feeding the kangaroos as you go. This was amazing for me as up to this point I was yet to see a kangaroo close up on this trip in Australia. They were so friendly and soft which was something I hadn't expected. They were also more than happy to pose for pictures which came in handy! And so the completion for the best kangaroo selfie commenced!
From here we thought about having the koala photos done for $25 but after seeing how staged it was we opted to walk through the koala walkabout which lucky for us gave us the opportunity to meet Frankie the koala up close, getting much better pictures in the process!
Also during the day we watched a crocodile/alligator and bird show and saw everything except lions and elephants I think.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable day out!
At 4 we hopped on the bus back to the hostel where we then ventured to Coles and the reject shop before heading back to the room for a relaxing evening listening to the rain which was now pouring down and luckily we had just missed!
