Woke up in the morning and snuck downstairs so as to not wake the others and met our bus to take us down to Mission Beach. The journey was interesting as the bus driver got lost about ten times. What should have been a journey of one hour and fifty minutes turned into 3 hours!
Once there the bad luck just kept on coming with our skydive most likely cancelled due to bad weather. At the office we had a BBQ.
Unable to say 100% that it was cancelled they let us go to our hostel which was just down the road to check in. In our rooms and resigned to the fact we mostly likely weren't jumping we both fell asleep.
Suddenly we were awoken by a guy at the door saying we had to get back to the office as we were going after all.
My head could not comprehend this, I'd already got used to the idea that we weren't going anymore!
We rushed down the road and checked in only to be put in group 4 the last of the groups which meant another 2 hour wait! Watching everyone come back and watch their DVDs I began to get really nervous - to the point I felt physically sick!
Before we knew it it was our go! The knees started to shake uncontrollably! We went to the beach to watch the previous group land - wish I hadn't as couldn't believe the tiny dots we were seeing in the sky were them - they were high!
Then it was time to slip into our harness and meat our jumping partner/instructor. I definitely won that one as Jase was amazing! So patient with me and literally my brain was no longer working due to nerves now in overdrive!
They make you speak to the camera before you go - who knows that I said I was a bumbling idiot by this point! Then it was on to the bus and driven to the plane. Luckily it was about the same size as Joey so this didn't add to the fear like it did some of the others.
We were told that clouds had come in and so yet again it was not 100% we would go unless we going a break in them in which to jump.
Part of me at this point was hoping we didn't go as I was just sat there wondering why I was putting myself through this. fortunately there wasn't a lot of time to think about this as 15 minutes after taking off the first 3 people were tumbling out of the plane with me following shortly after! Oh Jesus it was crazy!!!! Falling 210km/hour is incomprehensible! 60 seconds of free falling through the sky is the most crazy experience of my life so far! Then all of a sudden I felt like I was jolted up as the parachute went up. Bit scarily I learnt after whilst watching the DVD that there was a twist in the line when it did but Jase sorted this out without me knowing!
5 minutes of gliding around taking in the scenery was incredible! No better way to see mission beach!
The landing was interesting! You come in so fast and I think my face conveyed what I was thinking! A few choice words may have escaped!
And like that it was done! I can now say I've skydived from 14,000 ft. I think relief was the emotion that then took hold. Relief that we'd actually gone and relief that it was done! I may consider doing one again in the future but not immediately! I'm happy to firmly planted on the ground again!
Afterwards we made ourself some dinner and then literally passed out.
