27 - 20th October 2014, Queensland road trip, Cairns to Brisbane.
Sadly Charlie and Kris have gone to Sydney and it leaves, Dad, Mum Ants and I left to the road trip. We have been on the road a few days and it's fair to say it's a real adventure. Having driven from cairns down to Townsville on our first day and then through to Airlie beach the second and 3rd.The van has a bed in the back and a penthouse upstairs which ants and me refer to as the coffin as it's the nearest thing it can be described to. (A penthouse is certainly being optimistic) the road trip is great and an awesome way for everyone to see the most of Australia within the 4 weeks they are over for. We are all able to drive the van which also means the journeys are broken up and not a burden on any of us.
We raced down to Airlie beach within a few days as we had booked a Whitsunday sailing tour of the islands and it was a 2 night 3 day trip which we were all excited for. Although mums fear of small boats and sea sickness she braved the ocean and was able to experience the Whitsunday's with us all. The trips was awesome, it was 3 days of paddle bordering, snorkelling, diving and beaches. Ants decided to try his first dive on the boat and saw turtles, rays and lots of other fish. The reef off the Whitsunday's is actually the very Southern part of the Great Barrier Reef. So it gave everybody the chance to have ago at snorkelling off the barrier reef. We were able to see turtles off the boat as well which was pretty amazing, although they only seem to surface their heads for about a minute. Although the trip was great fun it was fair to say the ocean seemed to make our boat bob around like a dingy, which of course didn't help mums nerves. The sea was pretty bumpy especially at night and on one occasion the captain had to wake the crew up and move us all to a better spot. It seemed a little better after that although It defiantly wasn't my best nights sleep.
One the second day we were taken to white heave beach. And it was fairly obvious after being there a few moments why it was called white haven. The sand was the whitest I have ever seen. Apparently it is the whites sand you can have on a beach and has many useful properties and according to our guide NASA buy it. The beach was awesome so white and contrasting with the blue shy it was incredibly picturesess. We were able to swim in the clear waters and take pictures of the beauty of Whitehaven. The boat trip was a great few days and what was best was spending it with mum dad and ants, sometimes it's so much nicer to share these things with other people.
We ended the trip with a lazy day back to shore, sunning ourselves in the decks and chatting about the journey ahead. With 7 days left together on our road trip we still had lots more excitement ahead.
