14 - 18th May 2014, Clermont, QLD
Last day in Clermont!
Wow so the day has finally arrived that il be leaving Clermont tomorrow, 3 months in the outback working as a bar maid have come to an end. At many points through this outback adventure I never thought I would see the light at the end of the tunnel because the days here are so long and the place is so empty and quite.
So as I'm sat here bags packed, room empty and thinking about the last 3 months. I am writing this full of mixed emotions, to say I'm sad to leave wouldn't be true, because I can't wait, although this experience hasn't been my favourite I think it's one I have learnt lots from and one which in years to come I will look back so fondly upon. Not many people have experienced working in an Australian county bar miles from anywhere, with cowboys, country music and rodeos. I have been able to live in a 'town' with one shop, where everybody knows everybody else's business and wild goats walking in the pubs. It's got one swimming pool which closed after Easter and a lagoon with turtle, but once you've seen that....well you may as sit at the bar, because the endless characters make it much more entertaining then you may think....although having to serve them drinks and laugh at the endless Pommy jokes can be tiring. Its probably some thing il never do again and It's certainly something I will never forget!
I have also met some great characters, Cecil, Wilko and snow.... A few old boys from the pub great Australians full of fantastic tales...true or just tales iv enjoyed hearing all of them. Mick an old Irish Australian who has made me see life is for the living, and been a pleasure knowing, as well as a few of the other regulars! There are also some characters who I will be glad to leave...not mentioning any names but it's been good to see a wide variety of people. I have also been luck enough to have aidan working here, sometimes you need someone normal to talk too!
So what's next then... Well tomorrow il be getting a lift to emerald where Aidan and me are going to try and find a train going anywhere probably Rockhampton, then I will see what I want to do next! Who needs plans....I'm excited for the next part of my trip.
Thanks Clermont, it's been a Grand experience and il remember you forever!!
