This morning we set off to the swing site for my 11am swing! After reading the safety info and signing my life away on the waiver form, I went out to a ledge and a woman fastened me into the harness, while making small talk to make me feel less nervous! I then went down the steps to the swing point and a guy helped me into the swing 'seat', which was just a pad that goes under your legs, then I was attached to the rope above - no going back now! I actually honestly didn't feel scared or nervous, just excited!
From then on, the whole thing was operated by a machine and I was swung out over the ledge so that I was hanging in mid-air! The guy then told me to wave to the camera and said 'See ya!', before pressing the button with no warning or countdown, sending me hurtling down the face of the cliff towards the river! It was a massive rush and I really enjoyed it, although I was expecting it to be even more heart-stopping than it was! After a swing over the river for a couple of minutes, I was winched back to the top.
We then watched a couple who'd painted themselves purple do their bungy jump while Laura took photos for them. Before we left, another girl did her bungy and her scream was enough to put anyone off! Next, we drove to the I-Site in Taupo to pick up some info and then drove to the lakeside for the hole-in-one challenge!
The aim was to drive the ball from a tee at the edge of the lake to the green, which was floating IN the lake, where there were 3 holes. The top prize was $10,000 and we had 20 balls...but got nowhere near! Apparently they go snorkelling to retrieve the balls each day!
Our next stop was the Taupo Museum - a small place compared to some of the museums we've been in! The main feature was a garden that won gold at the Chelsea Flower Show a few years ago - think Grandma would have appreciated it more than I did! Back in town, we called in a at a souvenir shop (got a $10 tshirt - bargain!) and an internet cafe before heading to Pak n Save where we bought stuff to make a curry for tea - pretty extravagant for us!
Spent the night in the busy lounge, watching TV and enjoying our curry! A busy day!
