This morning we continued up the coast and arrived in Hokitika. We called in at a second hand bookshop and added to our collection - Christine by Stephen King for me! For lunch, we called in at the local chippie for one of their famous whitebait patties. Whitebait are a delicacy on the West Coast and whitebait fisherman make a fortune because the price is so high. We also found a fudge shop and bought some chocolate nut fudge for later!
Our next stop was the museum in town, where entry is normally $5 but was free when we visited - we liked that! There was a new exhibit about whitebait and the people who fish for them. We also found out about the gold rush on the West Coast in the mid-19th century.
After a trip to the supermarket, we drove to a campsite that had $20 sites (bargain!) but no freezer, so we left again and found another place just up the road - $22 but with a freezer and TV lounge.
In the afternoon, the sun was out so we sat outside reading and soaking up the rays. We pushed the boat out for tea and had steak, rice and salad - mmm! Then we settled down to watch the latest X Factor USA instalment - nearly 'live shows' time!
