This mornign we continued our drive along the Milford Road, towards Milford Sound. Our first stop for the day was at Mistletoe Lake. We did a 45 minute walk around the lake, but it was freezing and we must have been hurrying because we were back at the van in 20 minutes! I liked the name but the lake was....just a lake!
A bit further on, we had alook at Mirror Lakes, which were small pools that reflected the mountains behind them perfectly on a clear day. Unfortunately, it wasn't a clear day so our photo didn't happen....maybe on the way back!
Our next stop along the road was at Knob's Flat, another brilliantly named place where we got to use some proper (as opposed to pit-style and stinky!) toilets. We sat and ate our lunch there and watched a bus load of tourists get out and use the loo, and head off again!
Our next stop was much more impressive - Lake Gunn, surrounded by snow covered mountains. We did another 45 minute walk through the bush to the lake and back again. This one did take 45 minutes as we stopped to admire the view and the peace. I had another paddle, but the water running down from the mountains was even colder than yesterday!
We finally made it to our campsite at the far end of Lake Gunn in the early afternoon. It was a fantastic place to camp with a view of the stunning Lake and mountains, but the sandlflies swarmed in again and annoyed us both - they were everywhere, inside and outside the van. Cooking was a bit tricky and we spent half an hour squashing them against the window when we finally got in for the night!
Tomorrow we'll reach Milford Sound, the lodge and a shower!
