I wanted to get up quite early today as I thought it would be a mini mission to get my laptop sorted out- I had seen a few more places that looked like they repaired computers on the way back from Mermaid Beach, and thought I should check out their prices, and also see how much new ones would be from JB HiFi in Pacific Fair shopping centre (near Broadbeach). However when I went in to get my laptop, I asked them if they had any refurbished laptops at the moment. The guy serving me said they just had one desktop, but the guy in the back brought out an HP mini laptop which he had decided not to send over to his Columbian relatives since it would need a Spanish keyboard. They were selling it for $150, and so quite in the spur of the moment, I said I'd buy it. He kept it to transfer all my old files over, but once I'd left I got a bit scared that it might not be a very good one if it's so cheap so brought some water from Macca's so I could use their Wi-Fi to look at reviews. They seem quite good- the 2 I saw gave it 4 and 4.5 out of 5- and at least I know it's been checked over if it's refurbished. It must be a good sign if he was planning to send it over to his family.
I continued on to Pacific Fair anyway to have a look. After discovering Target had free Wi-Fi I kept going back to check on messages from potential roommates/ look at Gumtree ads. I also brought some sandals whilst I was there, which later I had to take off they were so painful.
The house we went to look round seemed good, but the guy who owned it seemed an awful land lord- he had a list of strict rules up and when the Korean girl who was in the room we would have had turned up with her friend, he started asking if he was a visitor. The reason the room was available is because he had put up the price up and they didn't want to pay the higher price, and so the way he said it made it sound like he was chucking them out whether or not they decided to pay the higher price. The sign above the washing machine said you could only do 1 wash per week and extra guests would have to pay $50 for extra electricity!
We had a viewing at 5, but the flat was all Japanese and we thought they would want to watch different TV to us and stuff, so we cancelled it.
I waited for the hostel bus, because of my painful sandals, but when it didn't show up, I rang them. They said it didn't go on Friday, Saturday and Sunday because at the moment they only had 1 bus driver and so to give the driver a day off, they would pay for your taxi if you gave them a receipt, which I was pretty impressed with, but didn't take them up on the offer.
We tried to watch Forrest Gump but the connection to the DVD player and TV wasn't working so watched 'So You Think You Can Dance U.S.' Some of the dancers were amazing- a guy who normally does ballroom did a cool hip-hop dance and I liked the Lady Gaga style dance another girl did. We watched a couple of Sex in the City episodes but it was awful acting.
