Today we got up early to clean the rest of our van. We didn't want the wheel's to look as dusty as they did (so they wouldn't have any clues that we drove on the unsealed roads to get to Longreach) so we must have looked quite funny, using the washing up brush and sponge to tidy the wheels up. I had memorised the route to drop off the van, (the cheap petrol stations seemed to have disappeared since we drove out of Brisbane) but since the road I needed to take didn't have a sign, funnily enough I went wrong and ended up going on what I think was a toll road (I turned left thinking I was avoiding it, but actually I think this meant I ended up going on it). It's a bit annoying that you set up an account where the money comes out automatically of your bank account because at least with toll booths you know you've given them money. I found Jucy in the end, and they were fine with the chip on the door and the broken tumbler.
I had a look round a supermarket in Chinatown and while I was there ended up buying some rather weird tinned items; Anka fermented tofu, mackerel in black beans and mackerel in Thai red curry sauce. I got the train back from the Fortitude Valley station to Nerang, and then the bus back to Surfer's.
After dropping off my laptop at the computer repair shop, I learnt that I should never, ever buy weird things from a Chinese supermarket- fermented tofu is disgusting (but once I'd thought about what fermented means it didn't come as that much f a surprise). I only ate the mackerel in black beans because I'd already chucked one tin in the bin, although once I'd mixed it with the old classic rice, tahini and mushrooms, it ended up tasting alright.
It was poker night on at the hostel- you had to buy a drink to enter but had the opportunity of winning either a free surf lesson, a 'Big Night Out' ticket or a nights free accommodation. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it that much (I only joined in to socialise) but once I'd re-learnt the rules, I had fun and came third from about ten. Afterwards we went to 'Beer Garden', and a covers band was playing, but me and Alice decided to head home quite early.
