So I applied to work at the crown in my first week in Melbourne when I applied for pretty much every job going in hospitality... But I got a call back from crown a week later for a phone interview, and had a face to face interview a week later.. After being successful with both interviews all that was left was for them to do an Australian police check, an international police check and a uk police check... Well that took another 6 weeks... Then a weeks training learning how to be kind to our fellow colleagues.. And how to spot a drunk person.. Oh well we got paid for it..!
So the role I applied for and got was Crown Casual Staffing.. So basically I fill in in all of the food and beverage outlets across crown. Crown is massive! It covers 2.5 city blocks and has billions of dollars turnover a year.
It's cool that I get to work in so many different places and experience different things, but at the same time, it sucks being the new person everywhere you go, cause you usually end up getting the crappy jobs no one else wants to do, and you get treated like you've never done hospitality work before so they don't like putting you on the bar.! Sucks. And the management is rubbish.! I don't know how half of them get jobs there, cause they're pretty clueless and crap at managing! However there are a couple of places I've enjoyed work at, diamond and maple rooms where I take orders on the tables and go make the drinks and take them out. And velvet bar, which is a cocktail bar, I had a lot of fun serving on there making a load of cocktails and the staff are pretty cool.
There is one positive about working at crown.. Free food. We get 1 swipe a shift into the crown canteen.. And my oh my there's a lot of food! There's the first section with chicken veg, Sheppards pie, pastas and the days special, either tacos, hot dogs, burger or wraps... Then we move on to section 2, where you can find 4 different currys, rice, veg, bread and popadoms.. Section 3 is the salad section.. I don't go there very often, but still, it's an open option. Then the last section is the dessert area, fruit, caramel slices, muffins, rice pudding, jelly, sticky toffee pudding... And an ice cream machine! Heaven!
