One of the things I was interested and looking forward to was going to Mumbai and seeing the slums. We first did a tour of the city and saw where the richest man in Mumbai lived, one of Gandhi's houses and a few other touristy areas. We then turned up to the slums and at first it wasn't too bad. Then me and Jamie ended up at the front of the group and we really wanted to take photos but felt so bad cause we were basically walking through peoples houses as if they were the tourist attraction. A few people told us we weren't welcome and told us to turn back and then other children were so excited to see us and just wanted to shake our hands. The houses themselves weren't really houses but more of just rooms with entire families inside. Our guide through the slums said the conditions now are a lot better now than they used to be and people actually move there to work on the massive laundry service they provide. So I left the slums with mixed feelings, pleased I'd done it but also bad for going just to see the poor conditions they were living in.
