The day started well. Up at 6am to be ready for our shuttle to take us to the ferry at 7am. We were at the shuttle pick up by 6:45, early this was good. But then we almost ended up on the wrong bus as we just assumed there would only be one bus that would use this stop, wrong. Our bus turned up, it was the bright blue one with Ferry Shuttle written all over it. We check in and get on to the Kaitaki Interislander Ship,so far so good. Until the Captain let's us know they have found a fault with the ship, a pipe has burst. But not to worry we will all get on to the next ship, in two hours time. The highlight of waiting around for two hours, I got to see a seal chilling on the rocks. The lowlight, everything else :-)
Finally by 2pm we had made it to the South Island, to Picton. We were picked up and taken to our backpackers. It's a cute little place, kind of reminds me of school camp. And they serve free choc pudding at 8pm so I'm sold.
Emily and I took a quick walk around the town centre. So small, but nice and quiet and quaint. Whether you're looking out to the beautiful green water or behind you to the huge intimidating green hills, the scenery here is amazing. Even on a day like today where it is overcast and looks like rain.
In saying all of this about Picton, I am very keen to pick up the rental car tomorrow and see what the South Island has to offer. Next stop Kaikoura!

Jo Did you check out the ambience of the public toilet there in Picton?
