It was a nice and early start getting picked up just after 7am to begin our day trip from Queenstown to Milford Sound. In a direct line Milford is only 40 or so kms away from Queenstown. Unfortunately the direct line is all mountain so we had to take an alternate route which was a four hour drive there. First we headed south to Te Anau, didn't really see much of that drive due to being asleep. Lake Te Anau was beautiful and from there the scenery really picked up, driving right up next to snow capped mountains. We even saw Keas, cheeky Alpine birds, along the way. Our coach had a glass roof so we had an awesome view.
The scenic cruise was incredible, the magnitude of the mountains, cliffs and waterfalls was fantastic. We learnt a lot too about how the sounds were formed by glaciers among other things. This is also another must do!
The 4 hour drive back was pretty quiet, we slept most of the way! Another fantastic day in a beautiful country!!
