Kya Travels
I woke up this morning to a message from Lachie saying that dad was going to Skype me in 20 minutes, so I got the iPad out and waited for his call. And waited. He mustn't have figured it out properly (Lachie's usually there to set it up!). So after a bit I sent Lachie a message then we got ready and headed out. We decided to go back to the all-you-can-eat place to fill our bellies before heading to the wine festival! We were lucky to get a seat because it was so full, but the food was pretty average this time! Pretty disappointing! But at least the desserts were slightly better! We paid, then headed out and began the walk down into the city and over the bridge into Buda, then up all those stairs again, all the while listening to Sing The Sorrow by AFI in my headphones. It was a good walk. We got up to the festival, bought our tickets and were given a wine glass each. We entered the festival and walked around for a little while having a look at all the stalls. There were so many! Crazy amounts of wine in this place! We picked a stall judging only by 'that guy looks fun', and got a taster of a couple of their wines, then kept walking around while drinking it. It wasn't a great one. As we walked up towards the other end of the festival, there was a big stage set up, but it looked like they were between sets at the time. We found ourselves a seat on the benches there, and watched as a group of dancers took the stage and performed a few pieces. Darren went to go find us a bottle of wine, and came back with one that was okay. (They gave him free tasters, so he felt obliged to buy from the same stall!) It almost tasted fizzy, it was weird. But still drinkable! We had a chat (with our limited languages) to a couple of ladies from Budapest who were next to us, and said "I-guess-she-can-drive!" Or at least that's how their "cheers" sounds phonetically! We saved their seat while they went to get another bottle of wine, and when they came back, we switched, and they saved ours. We wandered back along the stalls, and picked one because it was small and had cool labels, where we tried a few different reds. The first couple were pretty average, but the third and final was really tasty. So we got a bottle of that! We got back to our seats, and watched some more dances and had a good chat and laugh with the ladies on our table. The dancing was really cool, and fun. The guys did a lot of rhythm things with slapping their hands on their bodies, and the girls had huge flowing skirts that twirled around with them as they ran around the stage. I like Hungarian dancing! After a while the Budapest ladies left and we started chatting to a Parisien lady on our other side, and Darren got us another bottle of wine! The band that came on towards the end of the night are apparently one of the most famous Hungarian folk bands, Csík Zenekar, and I reckon the crowd just about tripled as they were about to play, so we decided to move up the front to watch. After watching them for a while (they were amazing and very moving, even though I couldn't understand them!) we decided it was time to stumble home! We made it back to the hostel somehow and had a chat before going to sleep at who-knows-what hour!
