Kya Travels
We slept in a bit late today, which meant our plans for the day were kind of messed up. We'd planned on getting up so we could do the caving tour that afternoon, but by the time we woke up we wouldn't have had time to get there anyway (and we had no booking!). So we went outside to go find some lunch, and the weather was horrible! It was cold and rainy, and my feet were wet in no time! (We really need to buy ourselves a pair of shoes again!) We walked up the street a bit and stopped at a place called Cafe Loft for some traditional Hungarian lunch. Darren got a stew and I got a dish of dumplings with scrambled eggs, which was nice, but the dumpling to egg ratio was a bit high! After lunch we decided to go find ourselves some shoes, so we set off up the street to find some shoe shops. We found heaps, but they were all closed! Retail seems to close up around 2pm here on Saturdays! Damn! So we decided we'd just head down to check out one of the Turkish baths, and keep looking on the way there. At one of the big intersections we came across a department store type shop, so thought we'd try our luck in there. And voila! Shoes!!!! We found a pair of rip-off converse there, for 3000 florints each (~$15), bargain! So Darren got a blue pair and I got grey. I put them on as soon as we left the shop, and my feet were absolutely loving being dry and warm! Amazing! (The little things, hey?) So we kept walking along the street, then went over one of the bridges across the river into Buda. The baths weren't very clearly marked on the map, so we had a bit of trouble finding them, but we came across a Polish couple who were asking a local for directions to the baths as well, so we joined up with them and got pointed in the right direction. We went in to the Kiraly Baths, paid and made our way in. We went into the change rooms and got our bathers on, then made our way down to the pools! It was a big octagonal room with a big octagonal pool, and we slid in to the 36 degree pool of bliss! We spent ages soaking in there, it was soooooo nice! There were a few different, much smaller pools around the room and the adjoining annexes, which were all different degrees. The 'cold' one was 26 degrees (but I think it just felt cold after the big one!) then there was a 32 degree and a hot 40 degree one! We had a soak in all of them, and stayed in the water until our hands and feet were so wrinkly they were hardly hands and feet anymore! Soaking my feet was amazing, after spending so long walking everywhere in thongs and in hot weather they had worked up quite a callus around the heel (eww!) so we scrubbed ourselves clean and lay about in the water for ages. It was so good! Eventually we thought it was time to go, so we got out, rinsed off in the shower, but we had no towels! So we wandered out into the other section, and found a jacuzzi! So we jumped in there and soaked for a while longer! Eventually we got out, rinsed off again, and semi dried ourselves with a hand dryer in the bathrooms, before going back to our change room and getting our warm dry clothes and shoes on! (My feet were so warm!) We walked back over the bridge to Pest, which looked stunning at night, all lit up, the parliament building looked especially pretty! We walked through the streets to the Langos shop we'd gone to the other day and got a Langos each. I got the same as the other day, but with jalapeños, and Darren got a stuffed Langos with meats and cheese and chillies. Yum! We picked up a couple of apples for breakfast tomorrow from the shop next door, then headed up the street and back to the hostel. We had a bit of a chat with our room mate, who was an artist from Moldova, then I had a shower (like I haven't had enough water today!) while Darren used the computer, then we jumped in bed and used the wifi for a bit before going to sleep.
