Kya Travels
We woke up this morning and packed up our bags, then when we handed in our keys, they let us stay for a while and hang out in the kitchen. We were there with Joe, who was coming on the same bus to Budapest as us today, as well as Laura, Hannah, Dave and Jeff. We spent the rest of the morning just hanging out, then eventually it was time to get out of there! We walked all together up the street, then we said our goodbyes to the girls and the American boys who were going on a daytrip to a little town called Kutna Hora, which I wanted to visit, but doesn't look like it will happen this trip! There's this cool looking church of bones, which I think would be pretty epic! So we said goodbye to them, then we walked with Joe up to the post office, where I had a few postcards to send off, and Joe had a big box he was posting home for himself. While we were waiting for Joe to finish up, we went into the op shop next door, where I found myself a jumper. (Yay, warmth!) When that was all sorted we walked down to Veganskŷ Svet, (yes, again) where we sat down and ordered some food. I got some yummy spring rolls and noodles and the boys both got Darren's favourite, curry fried rice. I was talking to Amy on Facebook, as she had arrived in Prague the night before, but was on a pub crawl so we didn't get to catch up with her. She was actually staying at the hostel that night, that we had just left! So she said she'd get a taxi and meet us at the restaurant. Unfortunately it took her longer than she thought to get a taxi, so we had to leave before she got there, so we missed out on seeing her this time! We left the restaurant and walked over a bridge past a cool building (called the dancing building, because it looks like a couple dancing!) and headed down to the metro. We got a train to the bus stop, then walked up to the bus station and found our bus. We put our luggage underneath, then got on and found our seats (which were on the opposite side of the bus to Joe's seat!) Then we set off for Budapest! Each of the seats had its own little TV screen, so we could watch movies or TV shows or whatever we liked. I started my trip with a little snooze instead though! Then I watched The Campaign, which was pretty funny. We got free hot drinks on the bus too, which was cool. We stopped in Brno to pick up more passengers and Darren tried to get off to grab some food from the shop that was literally 5 metres away while the new passengers were getting their luggage on the bus, but was told he wasn't allowed off! So when the bus got going again, we ordered some snacks off the snacking menu. The stewardess took our money, then went up the front of the bus to get our change, and announced that we were about to stop at a petrol station for a break! Annoying! The bus was parked before she even got back with our snacks and change! A little annoyed, we left them for later and got off the bus to go get something a little more substantial from the shop, and hung out and chatted to Joe for a while. They kind of got their revenge on the stewardess by ordering the last two hot dogs when she was in line behind them! (Unintentionally of course!) After our break, which was at the edge of the Czech Republic border, we got back on the bus and continued on to Budapest. We went through Slovakia, and stopped briefly in Bratislava for more passengers. It definitely didn't look as bleak as its made out to be on the movie Eurotrip!! I watched a few episodes of Big Bang Theory, then spent some time updating my blog (it's been a while!), then eventually we arrived in Budapest, Hungary! We headed into the metro and found an ATM, where we withdrew some cash. We actually felt pretty rich doing that, as the Hungarian Florint has much higher denominations than the euro or dollar, so when we withdrew 100,000 florints, and received ten 10,000 Florint notes, we had to remind ourselves we weren't actually millionaires! We got a metro ticket and jumped on this ancient looking train into the city. Darren sang along with some drunk girls who were singing in (assumably) Hungarian, then we jumped on a tram to take us closer to our hostels. We weren't staying in the same place, but I knew that once we found Joe's place, we only had to walk another couple of blocks to find ours, so we just went together. We got off the tram, walked a while, then eventually asked someone for directions, who said we had passed it a while ago! So we said goodbye to Joe, who headed back to find the place, and we continued up a bit further to find our hostel. We found it and got buzzed up, and walked up this creepy, dirty old staircase to the top floor where the hostel was. We checked in to what seemed like someone's apartment, and got shown to our room, and our beds, which seemed essentially to be just wooden pallets with mattresses on top! It did NOT have a good vibe, and I was a little confused as to how it had such good reviews and ratings! At least it's cheap!! So we went in our room, which we were the only people in that night, and hung out for a while before going to sleep.
