Kya Travels
After another sleep in today, we woke up and had a little bit of a YouTube session for a while before getting ready and heading out. We walked up to a little cafe where they had an outdoor section and a TV inside which was turned around to face the outside, because the football was on. Dortmund vs some other German town. We got some drinks and ordered some breakfast/lunch of pasta and sat out there watching the football. It was pretty cold there as the sun was behind a big building, but they had blankets for us to wrap ourselves in, so it wasn't too bad. At one stage I went for a walk up the street to get some money out, but for some reason my card wasn't accepted so I went back and Nina came with me. Turns out I was putting it in the wrong way... Oops! This is the first ATM I've seen that doesn't go in the same way! After the football finished (Dortmund won 5-0!) we went for a walk into the city, via a kiosk for a beer. When we got into the city centre we went into a shopping mall where we stopped at a pharmacy so I could get some eye drops then went over to the supermarket. They had a bunch of foosball tables set up out the front of the store, so we stopped for a quick game there where Darren and I got thrashed by Pancho and Nina then went into the supermarket where we bought a couple of six packs of beer and some snacks. With our arms full of snacks we walked down the street and went into a car park and went up to the top level where we chilled out on the top level, had a beer and watched the sun set over the Dortmund skyline. It was very pretty and we took many many photos! A guy with a super fancy camera came and took a couple of photos for us too, which was nice! After a while, when all the beers were finished we headed back down the stairs and through the shop back onto the street. We went down to the subway where Nina got onto a metro to go home and get a jacket, and the rest of us walked around looking for a toilet. After finding one in a restaurant, we walked down the street and found a group of percussionist buskers on the street. Darren went up for a chat with them, and when we met up with Nina we went to join him. He was just a little bit drunk and trying to play their drums, and the 'leader' of their group was NOT impressed! He tried to get Darren away by saying he could play the cowbell, but Darren wasn't down for that, as he was convinced he was a much better drummer than him! Eventually one of the other guys let Darren share his big drums with him, and Pancho and Nina got a few small percussion pieces to play, then we had a bit of a jam! I watched for a bit then shared Nina's instrument while she danced. When the very long song was finished, we walked back towards the south side of Dortmund to find a uni party we'd been given a flyer for, called the living room party. It was an outside party area with all different furniture from different rooms spread around the area. The dance floor was made up out of a big piece of linoleum which said 'küche' (kitchen) on it in duct tape, as well as pictures of a table and chairs and stove area! Pretty funny. So we chilled there for a while and had a chat with the mother of the kid who was DJing next. So we waited for a while to watch him play and had a dance to support him too. It was pretty **** to watch the organizers packing up the party around him though! Pretty bad form! As we were dancing, one of the DJs 15ish year old friends was dancing with us, and apparently was wearing a nazi jacket! Nina asked her about it and apparently she had no idea it was a nazi jacket, it was her boyfriends! She got embarrassed after that and took off the jacket and hung out on the stage with the DJ and their friends... Awkward... Apparently there is a big problem with nazis and racism in Dortmund, especially on the north side. After a bit we headed off an made our way through the city to another club in the north side of town where Nina's friends were. It was a pretty mellow place, with some live acoustic style music playing and a whole bunch of people sitting on the floor watching. I think the majority of that room were high! Darren and I weren't really digging it so we said goodbye to Pancho and Nina and made our way through the dodgy 'north side' streets back into the city. We stopped for a dönner kebab, where I got a felafel and some spicy chips then after navigating our way back to Pancho's house (and stopping for some rhino photos on the way!) we went inside and went drunkenly to bed.
