After a great couple of days in Kaikoura we travelled north to Abel Tasman National Park. We firstly stopped in Nelson to have some lunch which was very nice, before heading to Marahau which is the start of the Abel Tasman National Park. On our way from Nelson we stopped at Kaiteriteri and explored the beach. It was amazing what the cyclone had dragged up including sea urchins, giant muscles, star fish, wood and an array of shells. Continuing along the road to Marahau we also stopped off at Split Apple Rock which is a huge rock that is perfectly split in two which was a strange sight to see.
We spent the night in Marahau and the next morning we set off on a four hour return walk into Abel Tasman National Park. The trail went up and along the cliffs in lush rainforest and overlooked turquoise water and white sandy beaches. Richard even went for a dip in the cold water!
Later that day we drove back to Nelson where we stayed the night, ready to head to Picton in the morning which is where we will catch the ferry to the North Island.
