London day three (21st August)
Sorry I didn't post last night...just too tired.
Wicked was amazing but we didn't get back until midnight so we were both exhausted and slept in until 9:30.
After breakfast we headed in on the train and made a beeline to The British Music Experience. Walking into the O2 was like nothing else, a giant dome tent that contained almost a mini city. The sky network films their news. There are cinemas, restaurants, and the big arena. We headed around to the bubble, up some escalators (2 floors up) then inside. We were given these cards that you could swipe over different exhibits and then when we are home we are able to log onto the Internet and listen to the recordings/commentaries. One of the best parts was the Gibson studio. We were able to play guitar, piano, drums and record vocals. That was pretty fun. It was pretty awesome to see all the memorabilia from the 1940's till now. There were some awesome guitars.
We enjoyed lunch at a restaurant called the slug and lettuce. Andrew had a ginormous hamburger and I had beer battered haddock, chips and minted peas. It was so yummy. Best of all it was all half price. After thoroughly enjoying our meal we headed for the science centre. It was quite chaotic with lots of the locals taking their kids but it was interesting seeing all the medical equipment from over the year...even an iron lung, not sure how anyone coped being locked in that thing.
We paused briefly and realised it was 4:30 so we dashed to the underground to get to St Paul's for evensong. The underground was jam packed. People kept piling into the train like sardines in a tin can. Andrew couldn't believe it. I didn't cope well and was very glad to be off. We raced to St Paul's and made it there at 5:15. The guy let us sit and we enjoyed the end of evensong while preaching in the enormity of the cathedral.
Not wanting to go back into the underground we walked towards the centre of town. We'd planned to go to Twinings but couldn't remember where it was. Funnily enough, in our wondering we stumbled across it. I was in tea heaven. Australia doesn't have a patch on the herbal teas that are over here.
We found dinner in a little cafe. Andre had a toasted sandwich and I had a toasted chicken wrap and we both enjoyed an iced drink. It cost extra to sit so we kept wondering. After eating we decided that we should try to find an underground station so we pulled out the map. As it happened we weren't far from Covent Garden's.
Finding the underground (after walking through narrow back streets) we headed for Green's Park where we were catching the London by Night bus. It was very interesting. Would have been better if the guy beside us had sat down. Surprisingly I found the courage to say something about 10mins before the end. We were both getting frustrated and Andrew was having great difficulty getting photos.
We found our way home and as we got off the station at Croften Park it started to spit.
