London, England (19th August)
Andrew and I have had a great day. We were all up at 4am to get ready to leave. We had to be at Geneva airport at 5:30am. Our flight was good and we spent the time working out what we wanted to do and see.
Customs and boarder control took an hour and a half. It was painfully slow. We both needed the loo but couldn't leave or we'd lose our spot. My phone died so we were left with people watching as our main distraction. There are some interesting people out there. Just ahead of us were a large group of Jamaicans and Barbados athletes. We guessed they were on their way home from a competition/trials. Lots of them were wearing London olympics 2012 Jamaica team uniforms so that was pretty exciting.
Through boarder control...after a grilling from the customs guy...he though it was strange we were only here for 3 days. He even wanted to see our return ticket; flashes of boarder security kept popping into my head, not helped by my thinking this guy looked very familiar like he had been on the show. But it was all good and he let us through. Toilet stop then off to find our bags and we were on our way.
Rachel's directions were fantastic and despite a little hiccup with Andrew getting on a train, turning to help me with the suitcase and the doors closing on him (he forced them open and jumped out in an attempt to not get separated) The doors shut, but then opened again and let us on, praise God, we found our way no problems.
Rachel is truly lovely and gave us some tips about different passes etc. we sat for a while getting our bearings before heading back in to London for a hop on hop off tour. Once on board we sat and enjoyed the commentary, learning about all the London sights. Can I just say straight up...omgoodness there are SO many people in London.
We jumped off the bus at Piccadilly Circus, just 2 stops before we got on so we pretty much had a full tour. Finding the ticket stand we booked our tickets for tomorrow night to see Wicked. So glad we did because there were only 6 tickets left. From there we walked towards Leicester Square stopping at a massive I heart London shop. Souvenirs bought it was on to the M&M's world.
Can I just say, my love of M&M's just increased by about 110%!!! The place was crazy busy but awesome. 4 floors of merchandise, statues of giant M&M's - 1 dressed as the queen, another in a convertible, 4 (all different colours) walking on a zebra crossing, Beatles style. We got caught up in the excitement/chaos/fun of it all. We did a mix your own M&M's bag....two walls were covered with tubes of all different coloured M&M's and they weren't just you're bag standard red, yellow, brown, green, blue and orange.....no sir....(and this is why I love them so much more) PURPLE and pink and white and silver and teal.....awesome colours. They had peanut and dark chocolate as well as the normal milk. It was brilliant.
After spending about half an hour in there we were both becoming quite overwhelmed and decided to try and find an underground to head home. We were somewhat half hearted about it and started walking down a random street, not really knowing where one was. We stumbled upon Admiralty Arch, the horse guards (though they weren't there, it was lateish) Downing St, Big Ben, Parliament house and Westminster Abby. Quite pleased with our unintentional walking tour we jumped on the underground to Blackfriers station then a train to where we are staying.
Dinner was noodles and tinned mackerel. We've planned our route and sightseeing for tomorrow (all tube line names and stations, connections and stops listed). It certainly is a lot easier when you can read/understand everything.
I'll have to start using toothpicks to keep my eyes open soon. We've been going for 18 hours |-O zzz
Night
P.S I'm still yet to finish yesterday's but far too tired now.
